Fun Fun Fun Fest 2007 Recap from Super!Alright! on Vimeo. Austinist attended a town hall meeting about proposed noise ordinances that could undermine the city's future as the Live Music Capital of the World, and lamented the possible loss of Texas's only feminist bookstore. Throughout the week, they interviewed a bunch of indie fashion designers and D-I-Y websites—Etsy, Ornamental Things, 31 Corn Lane, and Aorta Designs—for the upcoming Stitch Fashion Show. They also did......

" "Just because you've rolled horse manure in powdered sugar doesn't mean you have a doughnut": people aren't very happy with the Farm Bill, and yet the Senate still seems set on passing a totally inadequate "reformed" bill that continues to subsidize Big Agriculture at the expense of our nation's health. City officials are "identifying" Muslim communities across the city -- but it's not profiling, it's "community engagement"!! Those kooky kids at City Hall!......

Sister -ist site, SFist, is reporting a 5.6 magnitude earthquake in the Bay Area, south of San Francisco. The USGS says...A moderate earthquake occurred at 8:04:54 PM (PDT) on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. The magnitude 5.6 event occurred 8 km (5 miles) NNE of Alum Rock, CA. The hypocentral depth is 9 km ( 6 miles). To us, that's a pretty decent earthquake. And at 5.5 or greater (here's the teaching us part), this is......

No sex in the champagne room. No crying in baseball. No place like home. No alcoholic beverages served after the 7th inning. Add another to the list: No smoking in multi-unit, multi-story residences in Belmont, California. That’s right, when the law takes effect it will be illegal to smoke cigarettes in your home if you share common floors or ceilings with other units. John Locke would be fuckin pissed. Located between San Jose and......

This just in from our big, cloggy daddy in NY: Proving that people will research anything and everything, the SCOTT Clog Clinic says LA is the third-cloggiest city in the country. In this case, we're happy to let NY be #1. The -ist cities are well-represented in the top clogs list (we're hoping this just means we've all got crappy crummy plumbing): 1. New York 2. Miami/Fort Lauderdale 3. Los Angeles 4. Philadelphia 5.......

She is working on her first novel about LA-based African American geeks and punks in the early '80s. Jessica Ritz was bred—but......

Thanks to the Astros and Diamondbacks struggles, the Dodgers are the hottest team in baseball. The Azul have now won eight straight, 14 of 15, and eight consecutive road games. But while the Dodgers sport the third-best record in baseball, ESPN.com's Darren Rovell came out with an article pondering if the Angels had passed the Dodgers in LA. "Big Nasty" Joe McDonnell said as much on 710 AM recently. But LAist believes rumors of......
