Although the Facebook page campaigning for the sandwich, "Native Foods - Bring Back the Reuben & Baja Surf Tacos," has yet to gain the 500 "likes" to return the sammie to its rightful place, Native Foods Café is apparently offering the Reuben as a special March 16 through March 18.

Campaign To Bring Back The Best Vegan Sandwich In L.A.
Native Foods Café fans are proving that you've gotta fight for your right for a good vegan sandwich. While we recently brought you the good news of the vegan restaurant chain coming to the Westside (and 14 other locations this year!), today we're hitting you with some somber information: The Classic Deli Reuben, one of our favorite Native Foods offerings, has been banished from the menu. But famished fans are fighting back via Facebook.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner: The Grilled Cheese Truck's Chicken & Waffles Sandwich
Some of the best grub isn't found on the menu, and the crowd-pleasing Grilled Cheese Truck has a not-so-secret secret special that shows up now and then, and it's a winner--literally. The "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner," is a chicken-and-waffles sandwich created by Grilled Cheese Truck co-founder's Dave Danhi, and this Saturday it not only captured a second place win in the Kama Sutra category at the Grilled Cheese Festival, but was also named Judge's Choice by Laura Werlin, author of the Grilled Cheese Please cookbook.
Eastside Market: Doing Sandwiches Right for Over 80 Years
Eastside Market has been serving real sandwiches to real people since 1929. The hot sandwiches here are some of the best you’ll eat in LA. As a kid, my parents would take me to a deli near the Santa Anita racetrack called Anthony’s. It closed down a while back and no deli has ever been able to match the amazing Italian sausage sandwiches you could get there. I am so, so happy to have stumbled upon Eastside Market. Now I can get a sausage sandwich that is actually better (no he didn’t
yes he did) than Anthony’s ever made.
Get Melted: Grilled Cheese Saturday at Mercantile
Things will be heating up outside in Los Angeles this weekend weather-wise, as will the cheese-and-bread combos at The Mercantile in Hollywood, who are holding a Grilled Cheese Saturday tomorrow from 5 p.m. until closing time.
Philly Cheese Steak on the Westside: Blasphemous? No, Delicious!
Online discussion, countless reviews, and adamant experts seem to only agree on two ingredients: Steak and bread (which sparks a totally new debate: what kind of bread and steak to use). Others argue that an “authentic” Philly doesn't exist--here.
You'll have to travel 3,000 miles for authentic Philly cheese steaks, unless you stumble across the Submariner.
Good Morning, Sunshine: It's Breakfast Sandwich Time!
The sandwich, proper, gets its very own national day of celebration, but for no reason other than why not? this morning we are honoring the breakfast sandwich. Constructed as something either portable or knife-and-fork-able, with a myriad of adaptations from bread to spread, and, quite literally, everything in between, the breakfast sandwich can be part of your routine (like that low-fat, turkey bacon Starbucks drive-through version for the commuter's a.m. crisis) or an indulgent treat (anything with a croissant, perhaps). We salute you, breakfast sandwich. Rise and shine!
Take a Bite Out of National Sandwich Day: 7 of Our Favorites
Happy National Sandwich Day! While some US politicians are eating crow for their midday meal today, the rest of us can seek out solace or celebrate between two slabs of bread to mark the festive food occasion.
Let's Do Lunch: Coral Tree Cafe
There are some great lunches to be had in this town, and we want to celebrate the midday meal. So, let's do lunch, shall we?
Eye Nosh: Breakfast Croissantwich from Porto's
Have you had breakfast yet today? This Guac & Cheese omelet croissantwich might tempt or inspire you to hit up Porto's Bakery in either Burbank or Glendale to check it out. Known for their tantalizing pastries, as well as savory sandwiches, this popular bakery seems to have it going on at breakfast time, too.
Eye Nosh: Cole's Beef Dip
So, hey, maybe today is a good day to spark the contentious debate over who makes the best old school French Dip sammie in Los Angeles.
New Truck Will be a Jewish Deli on Wheels
Looks like all the bases are starting to get covered. Last week pizza, this week we learn of Fresser's, which will mostly service Jewish deli meat sandwiches, reports Eater LA via Thrillist. They're serving pastrami, turkey, roast beef and even pot roast sandwiches in addition to " flyover-state-style bowls, jammed with mashed potatoes and gravy and loaded up with your choice of roast beef, pot roast, or turkey & corn, all of which are served with a baguette," says Thrillist. It's already on the streets on the sly and will officially launch in the new year. Follow them on Twitter at @Fressers
What Has 4 Wheels, 2 Pieces of Bread, and Lots of Melted Cheese?
If you answered: A Grilled Cheese Sandwich on Wheels, you'd be correct! Yes, Los Angeles, it's coming. Another food truck is gearing up to hit the streets to peddle a familiar food for the socially networked masses. Already reaching out to local foodies via Twitter, the Grilled Cheese Truck says they'll be "oozing through the streets of LA soon," somewhere around four weeks from now.
Sandwich Crack: Brie Cheese with Grilled Eggplant Panini
Talk about a great lunch. A few recent trips to il Tramezzino in Studio City proved this place to one of the city's king of sandwiches. A favorite so far is the Brie Cheese with sun dried tomato, grilled eggplant and basil garlic sauce ($10.95). Keeping to a vegetarian theme, Veg. Special #1 has goat cheese, arugula, grilled eggplant, roasted peppers, marinated eggplant and roma tomato ($10.95) and is equally as tasty.

Real New York Style Pizza, Now in Studio City
Matt Compton, co-owner of Arb Pizza answers the phone. Someone wants to know if his pizza is true new york pizza. "I'll tell you what," he exclaims. "If you don't like it, come back here, throw on the floor and I'll make you new one."
Eye Nosh: Is it Time for Lunch Yet?
LAist Featured Photos contributor Tales of an L.A. Addict tempts us with their photos from the popular family owned Hof's Hut in Long Beach (though they have expanded with a few more SoCal locations). Those criss cut fries in photo #2 look really good right now.
Local Flavors Set Up Shop at LAX
LAX may not be the most exciting airport by any means, but small steps help. Tomorrow is the ribbon cutting for two locally based companies, Baja Fresh and La Brea Bakery, in Terminal 7 where an express version of Wolfgang Puck's has already been located for years. La Brea has been at the airport for a couple months now, offering a limited menu of sandwiches, paninis, salads, soups and homeade pastries.
Canter's Celebrates Anniversary with 60-cent Sandwiches Today
Who needs roses? To celebrate their 60th year, Canter's Deli will be offering their famous corned beef sandwich on rye, pickle, "taste" of potato salad and a chocolate rugelach for only 60 cents! It is one per customer, but that's OK. You can just bring us a couple of black & white cookies.
Eye Nosh: Toast Variation
Did you skip breakfast this morning? (Shame on you if you did!) Or maybe that Starbucks scone/protein bar/power smoothie/leftover cold pizza left something to be desired. Perhaps this enticing croissant sandwich found by LAist Featured Photos pool contributor pink_fish13 can remind you of how good breakfast can be. (And, well, okay, how incredibly rich and buttery and grease-laden it can be too...croissants are basically pure butter and, yes, there appears to be bacon in between that egg and cheese goodness.)
Late-Night Snack: Mini Ice Cream Sandwiches
Have you ever made homemade vanilla ice cream? The ingredients are pretty basic: cream, milk, sugar, egg yolks and natural vanilla flavor. But if you want that same taste without having to make it yourself, we've found that Trader Joe's version tastes like homemade versions. In fact, it has all the same ingredients plus two preservatives and that's it -- no long list of unpronounceable colorings and chemicals.
Foodie Quick Pick: Hy-Mart Deli
You know what's great about the Valley? Nobody believes you when you tell them "the BEST falafel sandwich place in the city is in a strip mall on the corner of Lankershim and Vineland!" They just don't believe you. So you get that little, non-descript Middle Eastern deli all to yourself -- well, you and the legions of locals who know that this is the best place to get a fresh, delicious, healthy sandwich while enjoying the service of a delightful Armenian family.
Eye Nosh: Gobble, Gobble, Gobble
Is it lunchtime yet? We'll give you a moment to check a clock. You back? Okay, now let's talk turkey. Like, this turkey sandwich lunch snapped by LAist Featured Photos contributor kristi.nicole. Like for many of you, lunch is often born of convenience--whatever time you get and whatever place is handy. And although our photog doesn't say much about her turkey sandwich, she does have some thoughts on where it came from:
I don't frequent chains too often, but I am fortunate enough to work around the corner from a Champagne Bakery. Their curry chicken salad sandwich (served on a croissant) is yummy! They also have a pretty good selection of salads (the chopped salad being my favorite) and quiches as well.more ›
A World Minus Tomatoes
Nancy Luna, otherwise known as the Fast Food Maven at the OC Register, has developed a true appreciation for tomatoes in the midst of the latest food recall. A recent trip to El Pollo Loco inspired this realization:
Say Goodbye to Starbucks' Breakfast Sandwiches
You may have heard that February is Breakfast month here at LAist, in which we celebrate the glory that is the morning meal. But our celebration is twinged with sadness for those who may have been fans of the a.m. food fare served up at Starbucks. The company has announced they are ditching their breakfast sandwiches and declaring that their Mission: Lure Customers Back from Fast Food Joints that Sell Breakfast Eats that Include Some Form of Protein was ultimately unsuccessful.
Farewell My Banh Mi
It is with a heavy heart and a growling stomach that I'm passing along the news that KP's Deli, Silver Lake's best and perhaps only banh mi joint, is closing. KP's homepage made the announcement with this note:Dear Friends, We regret to inform you that KP's Deli will be closing its doors October 27, 2007. It has been wonderful these past three years and everyone's support has been tremendous. Unfortunately, our lease has not been...
The Fair Is A Veritable Smorgasbord
I love the fair. Absolutely love it. Why you ask? Well, it could be the awesome carnival rides. Or it could be the adorable animals. Or it could even be taking those "Olde Tyme" photographs with my friends (oh, you know that you love to dress up in Saloon outfits and pose with a shotgun!). But honestly, there is only one thing that revs me up for the fair. One thing that gets me dreaming...
