LAst Night's Action: The Clippers Season Is Over

San Antonio Spurs defeat LA Clippers 102-99. And so the charade that is the Clippers' season comes to a screeching end. Despite trying to make a game of it, the Spurs calmly took control of the final minutes of the game sweeping the Clippers out of the STAPLES Center. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers and Lakers Choke

San Antonio Spurs defeat LA Clippers 96-86. You remember how the Clippers overcame a 27-point deficit in the first game of the playoffs on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies to eke out a one-point victory? Well the Clippers sort of know how the Grizz felt now. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Still Have No Answers for the Spurs

LAst Night's Action: Kings Take A Licking, Keep on Ticking

LAst Night's Action: Kings Take A Licking, Keep on Ticking

Stick a fork in them, the Coyotes are done. Granted the Kings only have a 2-0 series lead thanks to Jeff Carter's hat trick. But the clawing desperation shown by the Coyotes and their cheap hits in the latter stages of the Kings' victory was an indication that this was over. more ›

LAst Night's Action: No Revenge for the Lakers against the Spurs

LAst Night's Action: No Revenge for the Lakers against the Spurs

San Antonio Spurs defeat LA Lakers 121-97. No defense, no win. In Kobe Bryant's return after sitting out seven games with a shin injury, the Lakers supposedly bolstered defense was a sieve to the Spurs. Bryant had 18 points in his return while Andrew Bynum had 17 points and only two rebounds. In fact the Spurs out-rebounded the Lakers 42-29. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Rally But Lose in Milwaukee

LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Rally But Lose in Milwaukee

Milwaukee Brewers defeat LA Dodgers 5-4. The game really did look over when Andre Ethier hit the two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to give the Dodgers the 4-3 lead. It still looked over when Dodgers' closer Javy Guerra had runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, that triple play on Sunday still within sight through the rear view mirror. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Outplay Canucks in Vancouver

LAst Night's Action: Kings Outplay Canucks in Vancouver

LA Kings defeat Vancouver Canucks 4-2. It’s not a playoff series until the home team loses. Well it’s officially a series. Dustin Penner - yes, that Dustin Penner - scored the winning goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation while Dustin Brown bagged the empty-netter to ice the game. Mike Richards and Willie Mitchell also scored power-play goals. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Overwhelm Spurs' Reserves, Bynum Injured

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Overwhelm Spurs' Reserves, Bynum Injured

LA Lakers defeat San Antonio Spurs 102-93. With the Spurs sitting their starters in favor of the Austin Toros, the Lakers had a surefire game to break their five game losing streak and puff their chests out a little as they head into the playoffs. Well it turns out Spurs’ head coach Gregg Popovich decision to sit his starters was the smart one since none of them got hurt. Meanwhile Andrew Bynum left the game in the second quarter with a hyper-extended right knee. He will get an MRI on Wednesday. more ›

Lakers Start To Get Things Rolling

Lakers Start To Get Things Rolling

As for our heroes the Lakers, it was a rousing start of a four-game road trip that takes them through playoff contending teams. And like NASCAR the big one led off the trip - the NBA leading Spurs who are the twinkle of every basketball loving person’s eyes. What was alarming wasn’t the fact that the Lakers won. While the final score seemed a bit respectable 99-83, it was in reality an evisceration. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Do It Again

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Do It Again

LA Clippers defeat San Antonio Spurs 90-85. Well it looks like the 19th time is the charm for the Clippers. Having being beaten by the Spurs in their previous 18 meetings, the Clippers finally found a way to defeat the Spurs. This despite their penchant to handing the ball back to the Spurs. The Clippers turned the ball over 18 times and even more disturbing at times they gave up 18 offensive boards to the Spurs. That was the recipe for a blowout Spurs win. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Lose Again, Ducks Win Again

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Lose Again, Ducks Win Again

San Antonio Spurs defeat LA Clippers 107-95. It’s a hard lot the Clippers drew having to play back-to-back games on the road against the New Orleans Hornets and San Antonio Spurs. Combine that with point guard Baron Davis once again not dressed because of his left knee despite playing ten minutes in Tuesday night’s game, things are tough sledding in the early going for the Clips. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Spurs Kick Clips

LAst Night's Action: Spurs Kick Clips

San Antonio Spurs defeat LA Clippers 97-88. Baron Davis was out of the game with a knee problem and has admitted that he was out of shape coming into the season. Well Fatty McFat didn’t look like he was needed that much since this was the first game the Clippers didn’t lose in double-digits. With backup point guard Randy Foye also out for his second game with a strained hamstring, the point guard duties fell to rookie Eric Bledsoe who ended up with nine points and three assists in 40 minutes. more ›

Los Suns? Phoenix Suns to Protest Arizona Immigration Law Tomorrow

When the Phoenix Suns play the Spurs tomorrow, they'll celebrate Cinco de Mayo with some meaning. In reaction to Arizona's immigration law, the team will don "Los Suns" jerseys "to honor our Latino community and the diversity of our league, the state of Arizona, and our nation," said owner Robert Sarver, via ESPN. NBA officials gave the go-ahead. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Regain Swagger in Road Win Over Spurs

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Regain Swagger in Road Win Over Spurs

LA Lakers defeat San Antonio Spurs 92-83. After looking pretty dreadful in the first half, things clicked with the Lakers in the second half. Bad shots, turnovers and a nonexistent defense plagued the Lakers in the first half. But the fourth quarter. Oh boy that fourth quarter. Three Ron Artest steals, one Pau Gasol steal and a... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Are Officially in the Playoffs

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Are Officially in the Playoffs

LA Lakers defeat San Antonio Spurs 102-95. The Lakers started out strong in the first quarter shooting 64%, but the mileage from the road trip started to show in the second half. What was once an 18 point lead dwindled away to just two points with two minutes left in the game. But the Lakers withstood everything the Spurs threw at them giving them a crucial road win. The Lakers have yet to lose to the same opponent twice, and the win gives them their 20th Pacific Division title. They are the first Western Conference team to clinch a playoff spot, and with the Spurs now 8 1/2 games out of first place look to have firm control of the best record in the West. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Continue to Hermmorage

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Continue to Hermmorage

San Antonio Spurs defeat LA Clippers 106-78. At the end of the first quarter, Fred Jones hit a 62-footer from just beyond mid court that beat the buzzer and hit nothing but net. That's all for Clippers highlights in this game. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Effort All for Naught

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Effort All for Naught

San Antonio Spurs defeat LA Lakers 112-111. What a remarkable game! The game was close throughout, although the Spurs did manage to take an 11 point lead in the fourth quarter. The Lakers led by Kobe Bryant came storming back to eventually take a one point lead. Now for the "naught". After Kobe sinks a three pointer to get the 111-109 lead Roger Mason receives the inbound pass, fakes out Derek Fisher causing Fisher to foul Mason just as his off-balance shot goes through the net with 10 seconds on the clock. Mason makes his free throw, one point lead. Kobe takes the ball down the court and passes to Trevor Ariza at the top of the arc who drives to the paint, trips and gets called for the travel with 0.8 seconds left. Game over. Much kudos goes to Spero Dedes and Mychal Thompson on the radio call. They do a great job broadcasting games, and this game was no different. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Kings Get Their Revenge

LAst Night's Action: Kings Get Their Revenge

LA Kings defeat Anaheim Ducks 4-3. The Kings were leading 3-1 after the second period, and all looked well. In the third period the Ducks came back with Bobby Ryan adding two goals to the one he scored in the second for a hat trick. It seemed like the same old Kings blowing yet another game in the third period. But Alexander Frolov stemmed the Ducks' momentum and scored a power play goal for the game winner. The Kings are now 17-17-6 and in 12th place in the conference. If they can stop giving away games in the third period, they stand a good chance of making it to the playoffs. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Offense Continues to Stumble Along

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Offense Continues to Stumble Along

San Antonio Spurs defeat LA Clippers 86-83. As unwatchable as this game was at least it was more interesting than Monday Night Football. Basically the game was like this: bad team A plays bad team B. Bad team B ties the game very late in the game but gives up a 3-pointer to bad team A with eight seconds left to go. Bad team B loses. Before Roger Mason made that three for the Spurs, the last time the Spurs scored was with 5:20 left to go in the fourth quarter. Both offenses are horrible. Fortunately for the Spurs Tony Parker and Manu Ginobli come back next month. more ›

Lakers Can Win

Lakers Can Win

Something funny happened after game four of the Western Conference Finals. After the Lakers escaped San Antonio for the three games to one series lead, for the very first time I truly believed the Lakers could actually win the NBA Championship. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers on the Cusp of the Western Conference

LAst Night's Action: Lakers on the Cusp of the Western Conference

LA Lakers defeat San Antonio Spurs 93-91. The Lakers started out strong posting a 22-8 lead in the first quarter. Though the Spurs would come back and tie the game many times, they just couldn't get over the hump. Manu Ginobli would be held to 2-8 shooting with seven points while Brent Barry had a career playoff high 23 points. Even with a career playoff day, Barry could not sell a foul by Derek Fisher beyond the arc at the end of the game to put the Spurs in the lead for the first time. Instead the Spurs are now down three games to one facing elimination at the Staples Center Thursday night. more ›

Western Conference Finals Game 3 Preview: Road Trip!

Western Conference Finals Game 3 Preview: Road Trip!

I didn’t have a good feeling about game two. I really thought the Spurs would come out angry after blowing a 20-point third quarter lead in game one. But I didn’t think the anger would amount to a three-year old’s temper tantrum. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Demolish Spurs

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Demolish Spurs

LA Lakers defeat San Antonio Spurs 101-71. I was wrong. I really thought the Spurs would be well rested and completely shut down the Lakers. In fact the opposite happened. After feeling each other during most the first half, the Lakers went on a 9-0 run to take a nine point lead in the half. In the second half, the Lakers ran circles around the Spurs swarming like locusts around Tony Parker and Tim Duncan effectively shutting them down. And Manu Ginobli was forced to go to his right all night long. It was a very convincing win for the Lakers, but they have to remember the Spurs are a completely different team at home. Game three will be in San Antonio Sunday night. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get Resuscitated

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get Resuscitated

LA Lakers defeat San Antonio Spurs 89-85. The Lakers looked dead facing a 20-point deficit with just over 5 minutes to play in the third quarter. But Kobe Bryant and the Lakers found a way to go on a 14-0 run at the end of the third and overtake the Spurs in the waning moments of the fourth quarter. The Lakers take a 1-0 lead in the Western Conference Finals and host game two Friday night. more ›

LAst Night's Action: DeWitt Does It Again

LAst Night's Action: DeWitt Does It Again

LA Dodgers defeat Cincinnati Reds 6-5. It looked like Brad Penny was still suffering from a stiff arm struggling most of his outing giving up five runs on nine hits in six innings. But the Dodgers, with an assist to the poor Red's defense, got him out of the game with a tie. After a single and an error to leadoff hitter Russell Martin and a infield out by Jeff Kent to advance Martin to third in the bottom of the ninth, Red's reliever David Weathers walks both James Loney and Matt Kemp to load the bases. Uber-rookie supreme Blake DeWitt grounds a 2-2 pitch to left-center getting a walk-off RBI single. It's wasn't pretty, but a slump-busting win is a win. Andruw Jones sat out of the game with a "sore knee". The Reds now haven't won a game in Dodger Stadium since July 2005 during the Jim Tracy days. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Overwhelm Spurs

LAst Night's Action: Lakers Overwhelm Spurs

LA Lakers defeat San Antonio Spurs 106-85. The Lakers played shoddy defense the first half against the shorthanded Spurs. But then again the Spurs did also which explains the tied score at half. In the second half the Lakers absolutely shut down the Spurs and Tony Parker while keeping up their offensive efficiency. If the Lakers win Tuesday against the Sacramento Kings, the Lakers will be the #1 team in the west. And to think in October Kobe's Escape from LA was at fever pitch. more ›

Big Stage, No Star

Big Stage, No Star

When the curtains come up near Broadway for the Lakers and New York Knicks tonight, the role of Kobe Bryant will be played by Maurice Evans. Nobody likes to pay Broadway ticket prices to see the understudy, but the NBA has suspended Kobe for tonight’s game in New York because of his “intentional” elbowing of Manu Ginobli of the San Antonio Spurs with 2.7 seconds left in Sunday’s game. Watch the video for yourself --... more ›

Lakers Lazy Sunday Morning

Lakers Lazy Sunday Morning

Sure, the Lakers are 19 games into their season, but so far it has been the equivalent of a lazy Sunday morning. They've barely had to leave home (only four games away from Staples Center, like only leaving the house to grab the paper), and they've faced the second easiest schedule in the league so far, like making a cup of Pete's to sip while reading said paper. The young team got to gel... more ›
