Tonight In Rock: Glassjaw, Butch Walker, HEALTH, Blockhead

Tonight Long Island-bred post-hardcore act Glassjaw will be headlining the Mayan Theater in Downtown with none other than Seal Beach-based quartet RX Bandits (LAist Review). Georgia-bred singer-songwriter/producer Butch Walker is poised to grace the Hotel Café. And, lastly, NY-based producer Blockhead, whose work is most closely associated with hip hop heavyweights Aesop Rock, Murs and Slug, will be taking on the Echo. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Smell in Downtown to catch local noise-infused rock outfit HEALTH.

Tonight In Rock: The Mars Volta, The Faint, As Tall As Lions, Kissing Cousins

Tonight Grammy Award-winning El Paso-bred progressive rockers the Mars Volta (LAist Review) will be headlining the Hollywood Palladium. Omaha-based electronic act the Faint are poised to take on Club Nokia with none other than local dance-infused rockers Moving Units (LAist Review). And, lastly, Silver Lake's own all-female quintet Kissing Cousins will be ringing in their debut disc Pillar of Salt, which was produced by Californian-bred multi-instrumentalist Richard Swift, at everyone's favorite local record shop Origami Vinyl. But we strongly suggest heading over to the El Rey Theatre to catch LAist favorites, NY-based alternative rock outfit As Tall As Lions (LAist Review). Seal Beach-based quartet RX Bandits (LAist Review) and Los Gatos-bred prog rockers Dredg are slated to perform as well.

The RX Bandits, everybody's favorite progressive/reggae/rock band from Long Beach, are back in town. Playing two nights at the Troubadour, this is the perfect opportunity to whip out your dancing shoes and skank your way onto the dance floor. Their explosive live show will blow you away. I first saw them when I was sixteen and haven't gotten over it since. We caught up with Steve Choi, the RX Bandits' guitarist for a quick and dirty one on one interview.

The Pogues were so bad last night at the Wiltern that we left early and can't really recommend them tonight, but we will list them because, we'll they're the Pogues. The problem was Shane was so drunk/fucked-up/brain damaged that it was sad. LAist are HUGE Pogues fans. Over the last three days we've listed them three times and posted two different videos. Which is what made last night's show so heartbreaking. It was like watching Ozzy on that MTV show when he was at his lowest. See anything else.
