Tonight FX brings us "Archer" and "Unsupervised" but check out my summary of the final day of the TCAs with FX's panels. Russell Brand was mind-blowing despite the extreme resistance to even the idea of his new show (we're gonna watch). --- All this and the TV Junkie Must-Watch Plan.
TV Junkie: FX at the TCAs - The Russell Brand Experience
Amy Winehouse Album Sales Soar, Father Plans Foundation to Help Addicts, M.I.A. Tribute Track
Since Amy Winehouse was found dead at her London home last Saturday, a fever has rippled around the music world. With Winehouse's legacy already solidified by 2008's "Back in Black," which earned her five Grammys, her talent and voice is showing its resilience this week, even as fans, friends and family mourn her passing.
Live Like A 'California Gurl': Katy Perry And Russell Brand's House For Sale
The four bedroom, 4.5 bath house that singer Katy Perry and actor Russell Brand share in Los Feliz is on the market, reports the Huffington Post. Located on Cromwell Ave. just north of Los Feliz Blvd., the 4,706-square-foot home sits on .32 acres, and also boasts a swimming pool, 3-car garage and private outdoor spa. It's listed for $3,395,000. A steal!
Russell Brand and James Marsden Give "High Octane Performances" in HOP
Russell Brand plays E.B., son of the Easter Bunny and heir to the holiday rabbit title, in the new live action-animation hybrid Hop. James Marsden is Fred O'Hare, an early-thirties slacker who doesn't know what he wants to be, so he's never quite grown up. They run into each other, literally and vehicularly, in Hollywood, where E.B. has run off to pursue his dreams of becoming a Rock 'n Roll drummer.
TV Junkie: Dish Network Drops FSN, FX, + Other Channels - WTF?
The Dish network has dropped Fox, FX, FSN, National Geographic, and several other networks so you had best find a friend for tonight's "Glee", "Raising Hope", "Sons of Anarchy", etc. Also, Russell Brand in NYC and cool news from "Bored To Death".
Russell Brand Allegedly Pushes Paparazzo at LAX, Arrested by Police
Actor and comedian Russell Brand today was put under citizens arrest after allegedly pushing a photographer at LAX. TMZ caught the incident on video, showing a mad rush of paparazzi surrounding Brand and his fiance, singer Katy Perry. At one point, it appears Brand pushes one of the photographers leading to a complaint to police.
LAist Interview: The Cast of Despicable Me
Steve Carell gives an ever-expanding heart and heavily accented voice to the (initially) despicable villain Gru in the new animated film, Despicable Me. When we first meet our hero, er, villain, Gru’s having a bad, bad day. He’s just found out he has lost his title of World’s Best Villain to some newcomer named Vector (Jason Segel) and he’s not one to settle for second place. Vector bested Gru by stealing a giant pyramid from Egypt, so Gru hatches a plan to regain his title by stealing something treasured by every nation. The moon.
Box Office Review: Still Shrek? WTF???
For the third week in a row, the tired Shrek franchise managed to place its latest entrant atop the weekend box office race. The lame Shrek Forever After raked in $25.3M ($183M) to easily top the hilarious newcomer Get Him to the Greek ($17.4M) and the lame Killers ($16.1M). The unnecessary Prince of Persia ($13.9M | $59.4M) and the...
Weekend Movie Guide: Splice or Greek? Or both?
After two weeks of middling studio releases (e.g. Sex and the City 2: Bitches Abroad, Shrek 4: Again?, Prince of Persia 1: Why?), we finally get some decent product today. Fresh off its recent Sundance success, Splice launches into theaters as a thinking-man's Species. Brody and Polley give this horror flick extra class and oomph. I didn't love Russell Brand in Sarah Marshall, but I'll give Get Him to the Greek a shot -- mostly due to the always interesting Jonah Hill. The presence of the lethally dull Sean Combs is cause for alarm, however,
TV Junkie: LAist to Report from the Video Music Awards on 9/13
We've got a few new show episodes tonight, but nothing spectacular - Wednesdays always seem to be cooking night what with "Top Chef" and "Gordon Ramsay's F Word". What we are excited about is going to New York City and covering the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 13th. We'll be on site and posting video throughout the evening.
TV Junkie: 'Chopping Block' Premieres; 'DWTS' Rocks; 'South Park' Returns
Tonight NBC is going to attempt to out-Gordon Ramsay FOX with Chef Marco Pierre White's new show, "Chopping Block". Our guess is that White will not have as foul a mouth as Ramsay but will have all his other TV-worthy qualities: intimidation, rage, and viciousness. May the most evil bastard chef win.
TV Junkie: Where's 'LA Non-Stop'? Also, 'Curb' & 'Entourage' Coming to Basic Cable?
Today NBC launched a 24-hour cable channel in New York called "New York Non-Stop", replete with expanded news coverage, on-location stories, and interactive elements. When can LA expect the same investment?
TV Junkie: Baldwin on TCM; 'Breaking Bad' Returns! 'Ashes to Ashes' Debuts
Sunday @ 10pm features the return of AMC's incredible series, "Breaking Bad", with Bryan Cranston (pictured, right) as Walt White, the terminally-ill high school science teacher-turned meth cooker. We've been eagerly waiting for this show to resume and AMC has done a great job whetting our appetite with their sneak webisodes and other promos. Since the other stuff we like to watch on Sunday's @ 10pm are available on-demand, this is one of our prime picks of the weekend.
TV Junkie: Give Fallon Time; Models vs. 'Lost' & 'Damages'
Critics are being rather forgiving of Jimmy Fallon's (only slightly shaky IMHO) "Late Night" debut: they brought out DeNiro who is always a tough interview and Fallon kind of made it work, and Timberlake kind of saved the first show - not sure why they had Van Morrison on, are they trying to reclaim the age 55-and-up demographic?
TV Junkie: SAG Nominees List; Russell Brand on Kimmel
A "Wallace and Gromit" Christmas special was leaked to YouTube by some Grinch - very sad and naughty! The little Whos of Whoville must be screaming.
LAist Interview: Peter Salett
To say that musician Peter Salett is a busy guy would be an understatement. A true “multi-hypenate,” Salett is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, actor and film scorer. The recent release of his fifth solo album, In the Ocean of the Stars, reveals a singer/songwriter at the top of his game. In addition, his soundtrack work has included Forgetting Sarah Marshall and the new film Role Models, which opens in theaters tomorrow. LAist caught recently caught up with Salett over apple pie and green apple sorbet at Hal's in Venice to chat about the new album, film work and his move from NYC to LA.
Russell Brand to Perform at Largo at the Coronet in November
Although many people know Largo at the Coronet as a music venue, their comedy lineup has always been strong—and over the years the venue has hosted everyone from Tenacious D to Flight of the Conchords. In November, Largo will feature comedian and Forgetting Sarah Marshall star Russell Brand, who quickly became an audience favorite during a Greg Proops Chat Show last summer. Brand's upcoming gigs are scheduled for Sunday and Monday, Nov. 2 and 3 and reservation information is available via the Largo website.
Greg Proops, Jon Brion, Tony Visconti, Russell Brand & John C. Reilly @ Largo at the Coronet, 6/14/08
Saturday night’s inaugural Greg Proops Chat Show at the new Largo at the Coronet Theater was a fun three-hour ride featuring music, storytelling and, of course, comedy.
Box Office Review: Chan and Li dump Sarah Marshall
As expected (due to its wussy PG-13 rating and higher theater count) ($3.5M/$144.4M).
