State Warns Against Eating Chen PiMei Candy

California health officials today are warning of high levels of lead in Chen PiMei Candy imported from China by a Rosemead-base company. "Recent analysis of this candy by CDPH determined that Chen PiMei Candy contained as much as 0.14 parts per million (ppm) of lead," explained the state's public health department in an e-mail notice. "California considers candies with lead levels in excess of 0.10 ppm to be contaminated." They say lead is especially harmful to infants, young children and developing fetuses. Sheriff's Deputies Shoot and Kill Man Wielding Machete and Bat

Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call made in Rosemead last night from a father reporting his 22-year-old son was reportedly "on drugs and wielding a machete," explains cbs2.com. Ernesto Castaneda allegedly threatened the deputies who arrived on scene with his machete and a baseball bat, prompting the deputies to shoot him in the torso "after he refused to drop the weapons then charged at them." This was not the suspect's first run-in with the authorities; according to court records, he was "convicted last year of evading arrest and being under the influence of alcohol or drugs in a vehicle." Castaneda was taken to an area hospital, but died later from his injuries. more ›

Sea Harbor sits a block south of Valley Blvd on Rosemead and is one of the highest rated Dim Sum places in Los Angeles. I've long heard of this place but have always been turned away by the crowd waiting outside, certainly a good indicator of the general consensus. Finally, this weekend I managed to drag the girlfriend out of her apartment by 10am, and we arrived at 10:50, plenty early to avoid a wait, or so I thought. more ›
