No, there was not a bank heist today in North Hollywood, as there was 11 years ago, the old bank building turned into restaurant/club on Lankershim Blvd., near the NoHo Red/Orange Line stops, is on fire. At 7:13 a.m. this morning, the fire was reported. One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation.

The fire burned between floors and in the attic area, said Ron Myers of the Los Angeles Fire Department. After about 40 minutes, firefighters determined that it was too dangerous to battle the flames from inside the building and went into a "defensive mode" outside the structure, Myers said. [NBC4]

Around 4pm today a one-acre fire broke out within sight of the Griffith Park Observatory. ABC has been running indepth coverage, although there is very little news online and no photos available at this time. Hikers have been evacuated. If anyone knows anyone who may be hiking in the park, they are being asked to contact them on cell phones. Visitors to the Observatory were evacuated from the building and were being kept in the parking lot at the time that ABC switched back to its normal programming around 5:15 pm. It appears the observatory area has been evacuated now at 6 pm and the fire is almost contained. Two to five acres between the Observatory and the Hollywood sign have burned. A brush fire broke out just over an hour ago in the Hollywood Hills between Universal City, Burbank, and Toluca Lake. The fire broke out around the 3600 block of North Barham Blvd (shown above) according to KTLA. Nothing huge at this point, no evacs, but we're hearing about alot of smoke in the air -- and it ain't no barbecue. The chopper video shows flames creeping closer and closer to traffic.
