Photo by imacri via Flickr You're still running to Eye of the Tiger? Then it's time to download some new tunes for your run. Most of these songs are much more aggressive than Eye of the Tiger -- Hard Metal Rock, Techno and Industrial. For people like myself, it's difficult to find good songs to run to. Everybody likes Coldplay but you can't really run to it. Here at LAist we like to encourage...

Can Someone Cook up a Personality for Top Chef's Padma Lakshmi?
We'll admit that Padma Lakshmi, host of Bravo TV's Top Chef is nice to look at, and she may have brains, too, but the model-actress-author does seem to lack a key ingredient in TV hosting: A little fire in the kitchen...salt'n'pepa in her stew...in other words -- a personality. But Salman Rushdie's ex isn't alone in this department. Blandness and the monotone delivery almost seem to be a prerequisite for female reality TV hosts....

Storm Large Sings The National Anthem
She didn't win the Rockstar: Supernova gig, but it's just as well because that freaky Canadian dude didn't really take the world over either, infact did that band ever play any gigs? All we know is this version of the National Anthem was performed right before the Season 2 finale of The Contender at a fight that looks to be in Staples Center. And we know that Storm successfully milked this song out for...

Project Runway Season 3: Finale Part II
The moment of anticipation has finally arrived! (Albeit amongst much more controversy than previous installments of Project Runway.) This season was more than peppered with its share of intensely dramatic moments—what, with Keith Michael’s disqualification, the bitter tension between Angela and her whiny mother and Detroit Neck, and the reinstatement of Vincent and Angela at the last minute for a challenge. But the final four have blazed through to Bryant Park will brilliance and...
AM News for Friday the 13th Mwahahahaha
Allow top-rated Howard Stern to leave, lose Brooke Burke to the hit show "Rockstar", replace red-carpet icon Joan Rivers with no-names, and give Ryan Seacrest $21 million to host a news show that loses ratings and what do you get? You now get to ruin G4. Heck of a job Ted - AP After Mel Gibson got popped for that DUI, he had beers for breakfast while explaining to his kids what he had...
Goodbye Gram!
Gram Parsons left us for a better place 23 years ago. If he were still alive, he would be coming up on celebrating his 59th birthday. Gram is often referred to as the worlds first Country/Rock Star. He has maintained an incredible cult following through the years - how could he not being one of the first to discover Emmylou Harris, he played shortly with the Birds and had the ultimate rock-star notch in...
Lukas is a Rockstar
After a summer-long audition, the Rockstar band formerly known as Supernova finally chose a singer tonight: Lukas Rossi. It wasn't a surprise that Magni was the first of the final four to go. Though he performed his blistering rendition of "Fire" again, American audiences never really connected with the man from Iceland. We were a little more surpised that likeable Aussie beefcake Toby got booted next. So it came down to Dilana and Lukas...
Tommy Lee's Supernova Can't Be Supernova Anymore
A lesson to all you would-be supergroups, yearning to use national tv to help you find your new singer and sell out concerts before you even really have a band: be original, and if you can't do that, have an original name for your manufactured band. Yesterday a San Diego judge ruled that the original Supernova, the Orange County punk band whose single "Chewbacca" has appeared on the "Clerks" soundtrack, was in the right...
Rockstar Supernova's Final Four
There were more signs that Rockstar: Supernova is becoming as cheesy as American Idol. First, fans voted and brought back kicked off rocker Ryan Star to sing his original -- and very romantic -- song "Back of Your Car." For his trouble, Ryan won a new, fully loaded Honda CRV. Hostess Brooke Burke then had to channel her inner Bob Barker to explain all the car's features since it was just sitting there in...
Rockstar Says Buh Bye Storm
Rockstar: Supernova took a wrong turn down American Idol alley tonight, taping the arrival of the singers in their tricked out Honda Elements. We'll take solace that at least they didn't air commercials of the rockers riding the Elements through Hollywood like AI contestants did with the Ford Focus. So they didn't cheese out entirely. But there is one more show left.. All five of the finalists were in the bottom three at some...
Rockstar Supernova: Is Dilana the New Zayra?
What's up with all the Dilana bashing on Rockstar: Supernova lately? Sure, she might be the new drama queen now that Zayra's gone (read last week's entry about cutting Magni in the head), but no one can deny that the girl can sing. First, the house band leader mocked her re-arrangement of her first song; and nice guy guitarist Gilby Clarke bashed on her songwriting abilities even before she kicked off last night's show....
Rockstar Supernova: This Week's Recap*
LAist managed to stop crying for a few minutes last night (over our girl Zayra’s shocking departure last week) to tune into the latest episode of Rockstar: Supernova. So Tommy Lee, Gilby Clarke and Jason Newsted are continuing their search for a singer to front their band. Here’s what we got left: Storm Large (yes, again, that’s the name she uses): Good singer, but a little too karaoke for our taste. She’s definitely the...

Now This Is Getting Ridiculous
Tonight on Rockstar: Supernova, rocker -- and we use the term very loosely here -- Zayra took the stage wearing a gold lamé (and lame) jumpsuit, platform shoes, a tophat and mascara. Her spooky look reminded LAist of Malcom McDowell in A Clockwork Orange.
Around the globe with the other hot -ists
Even as the stores sport back to school sales (which depress us, even now), summer lingers on your friends the -ists. This week's collection of links provides some of the best, worst, and oddest bits of summer fun. So, bring your laptop up onto the roof, make yourself an umbrella drink or ten, and enjoy this week's choice posts from across the Gothamist network.
Mel Gibson Heads to Rehab
Staggering in the footsteps of several other celebrities who found themselves in similar situations after consuming too much and saying or doing inappropriate things (Rush Limbaugh, Martin Lawrence, Courtney Love, Charlie Sheen, Kelsey Grammer, Andy Dick, and of course Robert Downey Jr.,) today Mel Gibson entered rehab for his drinking problem. David Mamet, yes that David Mamet, makes a funny at Mad Max's plight. In other bad news, Beck's new video and song is...
Carmen and Dave - Til Death Do They Part?
The kiss of death of relationships appears to be having an MTV reality show about your wedding or your first year as newlyweds, it appears, as today Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro have announced they're headed for divorce.
Rockstar: Supernova or Black Hole?
After being all 4th of July-ed out, this LAist poster settled in for a mellow night in front of the boob tube. But the network pickings were slim. We're talking skinnier than Nicole Richie.
Cheney satire brigades
It started when we headed to the Huffington Post to see what they had to say about Cheney's hunting accident: we got distracted. Look, they had a link to the CheneyHunt Game! Shoot along with Cheney! But the game doesn't last long enough for us.
Blog Angeles
That Rodger Jacobs is always stirring up trouble and this time, somehow, half our blog-friends are involved. Gridskipper launched an awards thing and all hell broke loose. First there was the campaigning and then there was the remorse. Rodger and Kim Cooper of LAist fave The 1947 Project called Shenanigans and somehow our friend Megan (who tells us that cupcakes are still hot this winter) got hit with a drive-by thrashing in the process. Since the 1947 Project and 8763 Wonderland have both dropped out, we're placing our money on Overeducated and Underemployed walking away with the win handily. Who knows, though, all the Urbs controversy might be just what gridskipper needs and LAist fan and friend, Bob Hanifen, can keep posting about Los Angeles long into the new year.
INXS' New Fortune
Though not exactly LA-centric, Rockstar: INXS was filmed in town. Because of that, and our unabashed obsession with the show, we're reporting on the finale.
Local Music Notes
Rock Star: INXS fanatics will undoubtedly be glued to the set to see if Jordis can recover from her abysmal rendition of Aerosmith's Dream On.
For those of you haven't been sucked into the vortex of Rock Star, there are plenty of live, local gigs to keep you busy.
- The Hanks, Juliet Simms, and Darci Cash perform at the Troubadour. Doors open at 7:30pm. Tickets are $12.
- Res plays the Roxy in Hollywood tonight at 9pm. Tickets are $14. Call 310-278-9457 for details.
- Silversun Pickups take the stage at Spaceland at 9pm. Tickets are $5 at the door. If you drop the note a band on myspace, you may be able to get in for free.
Grooving at the Grove: Antigone Rising
If you're bored in Los Angeles, just step outside. You'll find excitement when you least expect it. That's why we love this city.
