The Delta IV Heavy rocket is considered the tallest and largest rocket ever, and is poised to launch early this afternoon and on schedule from the West Coast, according to ksby.com. The launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base is set for 1:08 p.m. today. The Delta IV stands 23-stories high, and "will be carrying a top-secret spy satellite for the U.S. government capable of snapping pictures detailed enough to distinguish the make and model of an automobile hundreds of miles below," according to the LA Times. more ›

This time it is anticipated to be the AtlasV rocket, which will be sent into the sky a little after 9 p.m. tonight (listen to live updates here from). Mojava-based Masten Space Systems yesterday won $1 million in the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander Challenge, funded by NASA "as an incentive to spur development of technology by space entrepreneurs," according to the AP. Teams this past weekend had to fly robotic robots that would rise 160-plus feet, travel in the air for at least 180 seconds, land on a rocky landing pad and then fly back to the starting point. more ›
