A number of Swedish singers, including Lykke Li (MySpace, LAist), Theressa Andersson (MySpace, LAist), and Lisa Miskovsky (MySpace), have performed at local venues in recent months, and on Monday, pop singer-songwriter and Perez Hilton favorite Robyn (MySpace) headlined an industry showcase at the Hotel Cafe (MySpace) in Hollywood, with London-based Molly Beanland (MySpace) opening.
Tonight LA offers a bevy of options that make our show-going brain hurt. We've got the conclusion of the usual free Monday Night Residencies. Kenan Bell will be performing one final night with the Morning Benders and White Arrows at Spaceland. Rademacher and the Western States Motel (LAist Interview) will be wrapping up shop at the Echo with One Trick Pony and Seasons. And Manhattan Murder Mystery will be doing the same with Princeton (LAist Interview) and Divisadero at Mr. T's Bowl. But we're going to try to tackle two shows. How? Well, we'll start things off in the heart of Downtown at the Smell with the jazz-infused pop rock group LAKE and then continue the rather tranquil evening over in K-town at R Bar with LA's own alt-rockers Everest, who will be playing around 9:30 PM. The secret password? "hilljack"
Tonight LA is taking it easy. We've got the second night of Conor Oberst's sold-out two-date stint at the Henry Fonda Music Box. And Upstate NY-based folk rockers the Felice Brothers will be performing at the Troubadour with Deer Tick. But we suggest that you check out Swedish chanteuse Robyn at Spaceland. Having just finished opening for Madonna in Europe, the twenty-nine-year-old pop singer is, virtually, a full-fledged superstar. Yet, unfortunately, she has struggled to break through here in the States. So catch her infectious pop tunes, which will be toned down to acoustic renditions, before she gives up on us (and our poor taste in pop) altogether!
