There were two excellent photo essays documenting the high spirits of USC Trojan fans as they walked in to the Coliseum ready to crush another unworthy opponent. The first photo essay was posted last night on the LA Times USC blog by our very own Adam Rose (who has seemed to have gotten way better access after making the move), and the other was here on LAist by our very own Rob Takata. Both...

There was a wildfire brewin' in the hills of Altadena earlier this afternoon: The fire began about 1:30 p.m. and was fought by helicopters. Several dozen hikers were evacuated from the mountain trails leading to the Flores Canyon area in the Los Angeles National Forest. The fire was contained above the tree line though there were homes within a few miles of the blaze. No evacuations had been ordered by 2:30 p.m., [Capt. Mike] Brown...

Before that dumbass vegan couple in Georgia starved their baby to death by feeding him soy milk and apple juice instead of breast milk (and all the subsequent outrage that caused), one woman was boldly going where few in the culinary world dare venture: making human cheese. More specifically, making Paneer from her own breast milk. I've often wondered what would happen if such an endeavor was viable on a mass scale. What kind...

Last night the Mann Village theater in Westwood hosted the premiere of writer Judd Apatow's latest comedy, Knocked Up. The movie is hilarious! From start to finish. And worth watching multiple times. But we'll save the review for another day.

There's a brush fire in Griffith Park. KNBC is reporting that 80 members of a ground crew responded to a brush fire in the hills above Griffith Park at about 1:30 p.m. today. The fire is located in a difficult-to-access area between Roosevelt Golf Course and the 5 Freeway on the east end of the park. Firefighters are also battling high temperatures, winds and low humidity

The marketing departments of major studios have nothing on Los Angeles' guerilla graffiti artists. This promo for Spider-Man 3 is the second of two billboards for summer superhero movies tagged by (I think) the same artist. The first of these, a Silver Surfer billboard for the Fantastic Four sequel on Melrose near Martel, has since been removed, but you can still see this one (I hope) on the North side of Melrose at Mansfield....

Greater Los Angeles can proudly lay claim to another homegrown ethnic food mini-chain. With only two shops -- one in Rosemead and one in Monterey Park -- Mr. Baguette is hardly poised to crush Subway and Quiznos, but this humble yet expanding local sandwich chain offers a wealth of delicious and shockingly inexpensive bánh mì, AKA the Vietnamese hoagie. Combining traditional French baguettes and charcuterie with Vietnamese toppings like pickled carrots, daikon radish, onions,...

On Saturday night while cruising The Grove before a 9:55 p.m. screening of Reno 911!: Miami who did I happen to spot but Reno 911 cast members Cedric Yarbrough and Carlos Alazraqui hanging out in the theater lobby.

I know you can't tell from this photo, but they're actually snorting caviar out of supermodels' asses.

Like the elusive Loch Ness monster the event could only be documented with blurry, impossible-to-prove images, but I did get a signed ticket stub to prove their existence.
