As temperatures climb outside the cinema, it's high time to relax with one of the coolest actors out of the past. For those unfamiliar, Robert Mitchum excelled at icy antiheroes & haunting psychodrama over a 50 year career that included Night of the Hunter, Cape Fear & Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man

Orson Welles has seen more devastation & studio interference than any other filmmaker. Major works like The Magnificent Ambersons, Touch of Evil & Lady from Shanghai were all slashed to ribbons and will never be seen as the writer/director/actor intended. Still, they retain their innovative style, fierce bite & raw power over 60 years on. Running through Saturday, the Aero's Orson Welles retrospective features valiant restorations of these works, as well as rare screenings of UCLA's exhaustive, full restoration of Macbeth and Welles' classic (and surprisingly, untouched) Citizen Kane.
TV Junkie: Monday - Bush's Last SOTU
There's a few new shows and seasons starting this week, including the 2 hour premiere of "Lost" on Thursday but it all just feels like a build-up to the Super Bowl.

6:45pm Track of the Cat (1954) TCM - Dear environmentalists, don't get your panties in a twist over this classic about some cattlemen tracking down a cougar that's been preying on their herd. Robert Mitchum is classically craggy, ooh, and there's a chance to see Alfalfa (from Our Gang) all growed up. 9:00pm Fat March ABC - I can't pass up a show called Fat March, especially since this week we get to watch...
Angie Dickinson kicks butt at American Cinematheque
In between an Angie Dickinson double feature last night, the woman herself made an appearance and answered questions from a hoarde of enthusiastic male fans. At 75, the woman still has it; heck, she doesn't look a day over 50. (she may have had work done, but it's exceptionally good work).
Goodbye Janet Leigh
Janet Leigh, famous for her screaming battle with a knife-wielding madman in Psycho, passed away yesterday in Beverly Hills. She was 77.
