Prequel or Sequel: Ridley Scott to Direct New 'Blade Runner'

While the original story may occasionally fight its way - kicking, clawing, punching, screaming, scratching, bleeding and bawling - to the silver screen, Hollywood loves it some sequels and prequels. Case in point: Ridley Scott plans to direct a new version of the 1982 L.A.-based futuristic sci-fi flick, Blade Runner, reports Deadline NY. more ›

Box Office Review: Iron Man Kills Robin Hood!

While by no means a flop, Robin Hood does bear the scent of an under-performer this morning. The latest Ridley Scott | Russell Crowe collaboration only managed to steal $37.1M in its debut, placing a distant second to the mighty Iron Man 2 ($53M | $212M). Female counter-programming didn't exactly work for Letters to Juliet which only garnered $13.8M in its opening frame. Romantic "comedy" Just Wright was even worse at $8.5M, while powerhouse How to Train Your Dragon continued to print money ($5.1M | $208M). more ›

Weekend Movie Guide: Meh?

             + 1 more

Some may find Russell Crowe surly and rude, but I think he's a rock-solid actor who always delivers (Bud White deserves induction into the pantheon alongside Michael, Antonio, Carmine, Jack, Giles and Tom ). That said, I'm a bit skittish about Robin Hood. How do I put it? Maybe like this: is anyone really excited to see it? Amanda Seyfried is probably the most weirdly hot actress on the planet, but even that won't be enough to drag me to Letters to Juliet. God, I hope this isn't Vanessa Redgrave's theatrical swan song. Bring your hankies. more ›

Ridley Scott to Helm Big Screen Version of Monopoly

Ridley Scott to Helm Big Screen Version of Monopoly

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro and Universal have announced a new collaboration, "Monolpoly", the movie. The project will be produced and possibly directed by Ridley Scott. In a time when foreclosures are on the front page of every newspaper, it will be fascinating to see how screenwriter Scott and Pamela Pettler adapt the iconic real-estate board game into a big screen extravaganza. "Monopoly" has also found a new home in video games with the EA's recent release of "Monopoly" for Wii, PS2, PS3, and Xbox. Several other board game to the big screen projects are in development. We'd like to see "Candyland" the musical. more ›

Weekend Movie Guide: Lies and RocknRolla

Weekend Movie Guide: Lies and RocknRolla

I was excited about Body of Lies until I started to see some very middling reviews. Still, Russell Crowe is always worth the price of admission. As for Leo...eh. Word is that Guy Ritchie returns to form with RocknRolla. As with Crowe, Gerard Butler is always rock-solid (literally!). Ernie Davis had a great story, but I'm guessing that The Express will be a stark and hammy version of it. I'd watch Jennifer Carpenter read the phonebook to herself in the dark so obviously I'll go see Quarantine (show boobs please). more ›

No Country for Hamburger Phone Milkshakes: Oscar Noms Announced!!!

"No Country For Old Men," "There Will Be Blood," "Juno," "Michael Clayton," and "Atonement" all received nominations for Best Picture this morning, as the Academy Award nominations were announced in Beverly Hills. "No Country" and "There Will Be Blood" are the front runners with eight noms apiece, including a Best Actor nod for perennial Oscar fav Daniel Day-Lewis, and directing nominations for the Coen Bros. and Paul Thomas Anderson. While Javier Bardem was recognized with a Best Supporting nom for his work in "No Country," neither Tommy Lee Jones nor Josh Brolin were nominated for the film (although Jones is in the running for a Best Actor award for his work in "In the Valley of Elah" -- did anybody actually see that?). more ›
