Iconic L.A. radio personality Rick Dees is once again absent from the Southern California radio waves. Dees' departure came due to a change in ownership of his most recent employer Movin' 93.9 FM which took effect late last week. Regardless, many will always remember his many years of great work at KIIS-FM, especially during the 80's. L.A. radio won't be the same without him, but it is unlikely he is gone forever. While the news of the change is bad news for Movin'/Rick Dees fans (and Rick Dees), it may serve the local Spanish language radio market quite well, perhaps helping ignite some competition.
Rick Dees Gives Way to New Radio Station
Legenday Rick Dees Doesn't Want To Pay The Help
You'd think a guy who in one breath says that he reaches "over 70 million terrestrial radio listeners in over 125 countries around the world" and has just built a new studio, wouldn't say in the next breath that he has no money left over for the help. Bro doesn't have $8 an hour to pay a struggling college kid to answer the phones and fetch a Diet Coke for JoJo? Has the man...
Rick Dees is Back -- But Does Anyone Care?
If you haven’t heard, former 102.7 KIIS-FM morning DJ Rick Dees begins a new radio show tomorrow morning on the new Movin’ 93.9 – the former KZLA country radio station – that now plays a dance-pop mélange. (And thank goodness because LA radio needs more pop, right?) Dees, now 59, was ousted from KIIS in 2004 after more than 20 years at the station, to make way for the younger, über-host Ryan Seacrest. Now...
Dude, Where's My Country?
Last Thursday morning started out great. I jumped in my car listening to mix of morning shows, but left off listening to Kenny Chesney’s “You Save Me” on KZLA. When I returned to my car around noon to venture off downtown, KZLA had a grand surprise – it vanished, leaving the LA and OC counties country-less. LA has now joined the side of New York City and other metropolitan areas in life without a country music radio station.
Howard Stern Disses the Hollywood Walk of Fame
This morning on the Howard Stern Show the king of all media read a statement written by a former Clear Channel radio personality who is now on a mission to get Stern a star on Hollywood Blvd.
Star-stalking real estate
Today's real estate section in the LA Times includes a short feature on a $4.3 million home in Los Feliz that was restored and tastefully upgraded by Tim Curry. Which is fine with us, and a lot cooler than the creepy Rick Dees Tolouca Lake manse also featured in the paper (Dees bulldozed a 1930's Bette Davis home to build the $6 million crapbox he's now selling).
Foxxy Lady on the Radio
We heard a familiar voice on the radio while flipping through the radio dial last night. No, it wasn’t the ubiquitous Ryan Seacrest or even Rick Dees (count your blessings). It was Lisa Foxx, Seacrest’s old partner on Star 98.7.
