We comb through tons of event listings so you don't have to. LA events have come back from its winter doldrums tonight. Big time. Here's what's happening around town tonight -- there's lots of learning mixed in between all the great entertainment stuff. Today, our great state filed a lawsuit against the Environmental Protection Agency over the Bush administration's opinion that states cannot set emission standards. The EPA denied California a waiver that it needs under the federal Clean Air Act to move forward with regulating greenhouse gas emissions from new cars and light trucks. At least 16 other states had been expected to follow California's lead and adopt the state's tougher emission limits. [CBS2/AP]And to that, fifteen......

Whitney Bedford is a truly unique artist. Her subjects- shipwrecks, pirates, and impending disaster, are far from the norm of what L.A based painters are doing these days. In her most recent exhibit at Cherry & Martin, Bedford takes on one of the biggest celebrities of the roaring 20’s Harry Houdini. The life-sized images in ink & oil on paper catch the showman mid –escape, in his most harrowing moments. Some of the lines......

The title of the show isn’t so much about juvenile delinquency but an inspiration from the lyrics......

I ran across the name Peter Gurnz when trying to figure out which shows in LA's recently past Fashion Week I was going to try and score tickets for. He is the man behind BOXeight Studios, who put together some of the hottest fashion productions of the season, including Eduardo Lucero and Jared Gold's shows. I sat down with Mr. Gurnz to find out what how he was tapped to help bring LA's Fashion Week......

We were disappointed to learn that Silverlake restaurateur Reggie will not be the next Food Network Star. Instead, it's Guy Fieri, the NoCal Gen X-er with bleached hair, shorts and a signature dish called Rhode Island Calamari, which does look delicious. After hearing that he hadn't won, Reggie stood with his arm around his mom (aw). We're sad that he came in second, but the good news is that we'll be able to partake......

Carolyn Kellogg has been the editor of LAist for just about a month. She's been writing for the site for much longer than that. At the same time, she hosts Pinky's Paperhaus but we'll get into that later. She explains her professional past as a "former music journalist turned web producer". We'd describe her as energetic, intelligent, invested, excited and colorful. And that's just her hair (rimshot). Thank you, please tip your wait staff.......
