$10,000 rewards for tips leading to the arrest of suspects involved in two separate shootings that left a 10-year-old girl and an 18-month-old toddler earlier this month were approved by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors today. Erika Miranda, 10, was shot three times on March 2 when an unknown male suspect opened fired on a crowd playing basketball on the 1800 block of East San Luis Street. The toddler, Linsey Baquedano, was struck by a bullet on March 7th when standing with her mother in front of their apartment complex on the 800 block of 137th Street. Walking home from a party in April, Haik Oganyan and a friend became victims of a street robbery that turned deadly."Oganyan had left the party with a friend and began walking west on Gresham Street toward their car," explained the Daily News. "Three men described as Hispanics with shaved heads demanded their wallets and keys. The victims complied, but the suspects attacked Oganyan and their friend anyway. The friend suffered stab wounds but survived. The friend broke free and ran back to the Corbin address. The suspects, meanwhile, disappeared, leaving Oganyan on the grass, bleeding from the neck." Reward for Info in Weekend USC Hit-and-Run Upped to $135k

Today the LA City Council voted to approve adding $75,000 to the already-assembled $50,000 from USC and $10,000 from the LA County Board of Supervisors as reward in the case of the hit-and-run accident that took the life of one USC student and left another critically injured, according to abc7.com. The accident happened early Sunday morning, as Adrianna Bachan, 19, and Marcus Garfinkle, 18, were walking across Jefferson at Hoover on their way home from a frat party and were struck by a driver who ran a red light. "Bachan was killed, while Garfinkle was seriously injured. The driver stopped briefly at the scene, while his passenger got out and removed Garfinkle from the hood of their car. They fled the scene, leaving the victims on the street." Although there were witnesses, the suspect remains at large. "Police are looking for a black or charcoal, late '90s sedan, possibly a Honda Accord or a Toyota Corolla, with a cracked windshield and front end damage." more ›

Vigil to be Held Over 'Grim Sleeper' Serial Killer Slayings

Tomorrow night, South LA community members and the LAPD will be holding a vigil "to create community awareness to a series of 12 murders over a 22 year period that police believe were committed by a serial killer, to remember the victims and to disseminate information regarding these cases and the suspect(s)." The murders--all in the South LA region and mostly women--by the media-named "Grim Sleeper" occurred between 1985 and 2007 and are tied together by DNA testing. The LAPD is using four billboards to advertise their up to $500,000 reward to also create awareness and the vigil will be held at the location of one of those: southeast corner of Colden Avenue and Figueroa Street at 5 p.m. tomorrow. more ›
