DVD: Yankee Stadium - Baseball's Cathedral Release Date: July 1st, 2008 Last week marked the last final Star game to ever be played at _the_ Yankee Stadium. Of course, as you might already know, but most certainly would find out from "Yankee Stadium: Baseball's Cathedral" that the Yankee's had other homes but this is The House That Ruth Built. This DVD provides a comprehensive review of the 85 year history of the edifice from an......

Jamie Kaler, the stand-up comedian and actor originally from Boston has been on TV for over a decade with appearances in everything from "Will and Grace" to "The New Adventures of Old Christine" but we were given the chance to talk to him about starring in TBS's "My Boys" (Tonight at 10:40pm) as well as sneak a few questions in about his work on Seth Green's amazing "Robot Chicken". Listen to the entire Jamie Kaler......

Tell me more about this NAMBLA, Allen. | Photo courtesy of The Weinstein Company I wasn't completely sold on the idea of having so many different actors portray Bob Dylan in I'm Out There. I certainly respect the audacious choice by director Todd Haynes, but I think I admired the film more than I actually liked it. It's definitely worth a rental, though, if only to see three of our finest actors (Bale, Ledger,......

After this weekend's exposition games against the Boston Red Sox (the highlight being Saturday's Coliseum game), today was the first season game of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Playing against the San Francisco Giants, the Dodgers took it home at 5-0. Today was Joe Torre's debut game as manager. Says the Associated Press: "Torre, who grew up a Giants' fan in Brooklyn, managed the Yankees to 12 straight postseason appearances, including four World Series championships before......

When the Dodgers host the Boston Red Sox on Saturday, the game could break baseball's all-time attendance record with almost 115,000 fans cramming into the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. A lot of people are excited about the exhibition, but it's not without detractors. Congestion and dimensions are two of the biggest fears. After going on a tour of the setup this morning, I don't think you could ask for more out of this historic location.......

Lakers 108, Mavs 104, OT - The Laker's season just keeps getting sweeter. This time, it was all Kobe Bryant -- who managed to score even when triple-teamed. End result? 52 points, including 22 in the 4th quarter and 8 in OT. It was the first game between the refurbished Laker's (Pau Gasol had 17 points and 14 rebounds) and the refurbished Mavs (Jason Kidd had 15 points and 11 assists). The win keeps Los......

On Thursday with the enlightened press in tow, Frank McCourt broke ground at the LA Memorial Coliseum to prepare for the March 29 exhibition game against the Boston Red Sox. Although the game has been sold out, the Dodgers have added a standing room only section behind the right field fence for 25,000 more tickets. Those tickets will go on sale Saturday for $10 a piece. If that sells out that means 115,000 people......

A quick Dodger note for everyone. On Saturday at 10:00am, tickets to the Dodgers exhibition game on Saturday, March 29 against the Boston Red Sox at the LA Memorial Coliseum will go on sale. This will be a special occasion helping the Dodgers kick off their season-long celebration of their 50th year in Los Angeles. As many of you might know, the Dodgers played at the Coliseum when they moved here in 1958 until......

LAist listed a top ten list of sorts: things they hope not to see in Los Angeles in 2008. (one example, pictured above). Shanghaiist was surprised to learn that "godless," "atheist," and "commie" China is soon going to be the world's largest supplier of Bibles! Torontoist picked some of their favorite photos of 2007. Londonist was relieved to hear the fire at the Royal Marsden hospital didn't harm any of the patients even though......

Former Senate Majority Leader (and current Boston Red Sox director) George Mitchell just announced the results of his 20-month, $20 million investigation into allegations of widespread steroid usage in baseball. The long-awaited, 409-page Mitchell Report (document here) identifies more than 80 current and former players as being linked to using performance-enhancing drugs. While the report casts blame on the lack of institutional control within baseball as much as the players themselves that cheated, what......

The Harry Potter series of films may be due for a bit of a letdown now that the books are all done and the secrets are out. Nevertheless, something tells me I'll be curling up with the family to watch Order of the Phoenix over Christmas. If Paul Greengrass isn't the best director working right now he's definitely on a very short list and Bourne Ultimatum is the proof. What was Vanessa Hudgens thinking?......

While you were sleeping: There's nothing wrong with the ganj in California, as long as you've got a scrip to use. So decided the 4th District Court of Appeals in the case of a 22-year-old who had a quarter of weed confiscated in a traffic stop by LAPD, despite having a prescription for marijuana as treatment for severe back pain. Now, how exactly will LAPD go about "returning" weed to rightful owner 2.5 years......

It's such a great shame that Adrienne Shelly's life was cut so tragically short last year. Her last film, Waitress, was one of the true, unexpected delights of the summer season. Hot Rod, however, was one of the bigger disappointments. Maybe Andy Samberg is better in two minute increments. I Know Who Killed Me may one day rival Showgirls as a guilty pleasure. It's odd. I really like Rowan Atkinson as a performer...except when......

In Los Angeles, LAist most definitely celebrated Thanksgiving like no other. After all, one has to keep up all the energy to keep on walking the line at the Writers Strike and fighting the unfortunate return of the wildfires in Malibu, which single handedly destroyed over fifty homes within the first 24 hours. National outlets may be covering the fires, but CNN also found it is easier to buy a gun than fruit and......

So what has been going on in Dodger land since I last posted? Well a big hearty congrats go to Russell Martin for winning the Silver Slugger Award for National League catchers. Voted by coaches and managers, Martin led the NL catchers in hits, homers, runs, stolen bases, batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. Only Mike Piazza (from 1993-1998) was the other Dodger catcher to win the award since its inception in 1980.......

But first - Kobe vetoed a trade! Baseball in the Coliseum - Just after it was announced that the Red Sox will open the exhibition season against Oakland in Japan, the Dodgers confirmed that the defending World Champs would play three games against the Blue Crew. Londonist got the big scoop of the week with what may be the first images of notorious street artist Banksy in action. They also got on a runaway train without an operator provoking a response from the transport authorities. Elsewhere, London's answer to Central Station is about to open for business, and Londonist got a sneak preview. Meanwhile, spooky goings-on beneath London Bridge, where a cache of skeletons provided an apt story for Hallowe'en.......

By now you've probably heard that this year's Vegoose was a smashing success. Pretty much everything about the show was great; plenty of booze, food, facilities, and the availability of televised sports (for the adamant college football/NFL/World Series fans willing to miss their favorite bands to catch the score.) The crowd seemed highly content throughout the whole show, save for a few rumbles between Red Sox and Rockies fans. Lucky for us, LAist got......

The Red Sox has permeated nearly every facet of Bostonist's lives. When they're not live-blogging the games, waxing poetic about the games, thanking Curt Schilling for his splendid work, or telling Dane Cook to watch his hair, they're watching certain presidential candidates hop on the Red Sox bandwagon (sorry, Gothamist). The Sox are so branded on the local brain that people are using the Series to spice up their sex lives. Speaking of spice, Bostonist......

Coyotes 1, Ducks 0 - The Duck's road problems have come home to roost. They were held scoreless against lowly Phoenix in Anaheim last night and couldn't convert on six power plays. Four players -- Ryan Getzlaf, Rob Niedermayer, Mathieu Schneider and Todd Bertuzzi -- missed the game due to injury. Kings 2, Stars 1 - Los Angeles finally snapped a nine game losing streak to Dallas. It also marked the first time in two......

The only thing hotter than the Southern Californian fires on the web today is a company in Irvine, who, unfortunately, are being recognized today for something that they probably don't want. The amazing lucky streak of the Colorado Rockies came to a halt today when they released World Series tickets exclusively online - and the site crashed. Paciolan runs the site. The Boston Red Sox, after coming back from a (reminiscent) 3-1 series deficit, last night beat the Cleveland Indians 11-2 to win the AL Championship Series and secure a spot in the World Series for the second time in four years. Fire 1, Galaxy 0 - We happened to be at Chicago-area hotspot Krem last night and saw players from both teams drinking, but for different reasons. The Fire scored in extra time to clinch the final MLS playoff spot and send the Galaxy back to Los Angeles for the year. Meet Gobstopper. She's an 8-month-old Basenji mix, give or take a few details. We're not really sure about her background because she was a stray. And last Saturday my husband and I picked her out from among the numerous other dogs available from the county's animal shelter in Castaic. We went with a pound dog because of (a) the cost and (b) there are hundreds of good animals just waiting for a home that......

Gothamist learned about the craziest urban nightmare come true: A huge python found in the bathroom pipes. It was also a nightmare for some Yankees fans, as manger Joe Torre declined to come back and manage the Bronx Bombers. At least the city's attempt to give some direction to subway riders was interesting, pranksters went shirtless at the Fifth Avenue Abercrombie & Fitch and the I Heart Brooklyn Girls calendars came out. Despite the presence of a fine cast, compelling material and a promising director, Reservation Road is further proof that there's a certain amount of alchemy involved in the creation of a good movie. While Reservation Road isn't terrible, it is relentlessly mediocre which--considering the high level of talent involved--can only qualify it as a deep disappointment. The script hits a profoundly false note so early in the film that you spend the rest of......

If you're a local sports fan, hopefully you had Columbus Day (International Day of Solidarity with Indigenous People, whatever) off to nurse a wicked hangover. In fact, maybe you should take tonight off from Sports Center, too. It's Leif Erikson day. Honest. Even George W. Bush knows that (and don't worry, he's probably not working today, either).
