A few weeks back I promised to continue the photo essay of my next-door neighbor, the Redondo Beach Pier, where there is always something weird and wonderful to see and do. The Fun Factory is the next best thing to a cheesy, down-the-shore/midway arcade. Sure, Santa Monica Pier has its Ferris wheel, calliope and similar games of chance, but The Fun Factory has such an extensive jumble of bizarre coin operated artifacts, games, kiddy rides, crane machines, fortune tellers, pinball machines, vintage video games and whatever else you can think to stick a token into, that it just wins the prize for coolest, redemption palace in LA county. "Redemption" is how they describe those novelty amusements that devour all your laundry money. By the way, this 300+ game space can be enjoyed even on the most blustery of days, as it is an indoor attraction. Neener-neener-neener, SM Pier!

After a visit to the doctor for my yearly oil change and lube, I was in the need of a bit of fresh air. Don't you just hate the irony of a heavy-set doctor telling you that your blood pressure is closer to high than it should be and that losing all the weight you gained back might be a really good idea? Yeah, me too. Damn it, I really wasn't planning on any New Year's Resolutions! Nevertheless, in lieu of my regularly scheduled veg out in front of the computer, I decided to take a brisk walk on a bright and blustery day in my neighborhood, a neighborhood conveniently located near an off-season tourist spot.

New York Times Does Culver City "Clearly, things have changed. Culver City, once considered a place to drive by on your way to somewhere else, has become Los Angeles's newest stylish neighborhood, a magnet for lovers of the arts, good food and culture. One part Hollywood nostalgia, one part modern design, the city-within-a-city now inspires expressions like “nascent Chelsea” and 'L.A.'s new restaurant mecca.'”(New York Times) What's in Your Fish? If you are a "large lady" or "one of the men who loves them", the odds are that you've already heard of Club Moxie, located on the Redondo Beach Pier. For the rest of you who haven't had the opportunity to familiarize yourself, it is a night club that caters to obese chicks, and has a bunch of thuggy chubby-chasers who go there and stir up trouble for our fine beach city.
Because I live a few blocks away, and because I have gone down into that night club and boogied with the best of them... I have a unique opinion on the recent trouble that has been bitten off. Apparently, last weekend Moxie's had a fight that spilled into the streets, and I heard at least ten million cop cars drive up like they just found Osama.
Yeah that sucks that these knuckle-heads come into our city and have no respect, and call officers away from dealing with drunk drivers just to break up a fight over fatties.
But yeah thats cool that the ladies have their sanctuary. They deserve an oceanside night club with all-you-can-eat ribs, if that's what they REALLY want.
Redondo Beach is going to review their licenses and such very soon, and, with all sincerity, I think solving the problem is a piece of cake, and that the city can offer a deal that Club Moxie can swallow.
There are about a million different ways to spend 50 cents, but none are as awesome as the Tilt-A-Whirl at the Redondo Beach Fun Factory located on the Redondo Beach Pier. Enjoy the film, but don't get too dizzy!
