Happy 10th Birthday, Amoeba Hollywood! The big little music store that could is celebrating a milestone, and this weekend, the party is courtesy KCRW, who will be undertaking a first endeavor, and broadcasting live from the store all day on Saturday, November 12.
Rolling Stone Names Amoeba #1 Record Store in U.S., Fat Beats Closing on Melrose
Amoeba Records, along with its two other California locations, took top honors this week on Rolling Stone's list of 25 top U.S. record stores for unique vinyl and CDs. No surprises there and no other local stores were listed (Chicago garnered three spots!).
Fat Beats to Close Last 2 Retail Stores, Including 1 in L.A.
Another independent music store has announced they will be closing down. This time it's Fat Beats, a hip-hop centric record shop with two remaining retail outlets, one in New York City and one here in Los Angeles on Melrose.
Jack White to Open Pop-Up Record Store in Downtown
In promotion of his latest album, Jack White is opening a temporary record store on Main Street in downtown Los Angeles tomorrow through Friday. Third Man Records and Novelties, which last popped up in New York City (and has a permanent space in Nashville), will feature all things Jack White from the White Stripes, Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, which just released the album, Horehound.
