Show Review: Rant & Rave

Show Review: Rant & Rave

The Pico Corridor, that unofficial strip of street past Beverwil but before Koreatown, surely has a story to tell. There are the ubiquitous taco spots, auto mechanics, bodegas and crumbling city blocks, the pitted indentations of weather or street warfare, some washed over with waves of spray paint. There are also lots of little gems, like La Maison du Pain, Sky’s Gourmet Tacos, Local’s bar, The Comedy Union, and PiPS, standing proudly nearby and inviting the neighborhood out for a late night chat. It seems like this little up-and-coming slice of Mid City has always had a lot to talk about, and now Rant & Rave has come to help it find its voice. more ›

The Unusual Suspects presents Life. Love. Lies! an interactive play that’s geared toward sparking community discussion tonight at 7 pm at Pacoima Charter Elementary (and on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at noon at San Fernando High School). The play follows Vanessa and Christina, two teenage girls whose are off kilter because of the people who are supposed to be looking out for them. Issues focus on teen pregnancy, domestic abuse, gang culture, language barriers and social isolation. It’s performed as an unfinished work and Pacoima parents turn to the audience and community to resolve the challenges facing Vanessa and Christina. All shows are presented in Spanish and English. For information about attending either show please call 213-488-8488, x201 or e-mail RSVP@theunusualsuspects.org. more ›
