Harassing Brentwood

An anonymous Craigslist rant takes on the hateful nature of Los Angeles--especially the tony Brentwood--and asks that all the haters leave: "If you wanna stay be fucking nice," she exclaims. In fact, she's so fed up, she's going out of her way to get revenge. It's amusing. "Everyone in this city mistreats eachother, its disgusting. It doesnt matter what color they are, they are dicks. In fact, I make a point now of going into places like Brentwood, where the people are the fucking rudest, most self-important assholes ever, and I like to stroll through the market aisles, take my time parking, fiddle in my purse for my wallet...its fucking juvenile, but I definitely take my sweet ass time crossing the street when its my right of way. These people need to be shamed." What do you think? Is Los Angeles a mean town or just as mean as any city?

Kogi BBQ Rant: 'Dear Hypesters, this shizz has GOT to STOP'

Will Kogi BBQ start getting more notoriety because of these awesome rants instead of their food? The last time, it was an e-mail from Kogi's PR person to a food blogger where she explained she did not like being treated like a "vending machine" for press inquiries. Now, their resident blogger going after the so called "hypestar" in a long post. Here's an excerpt where the term is defined: "What is a hypester? (Not to be confused with a hipster - which is a very strangeLy fancifuL and occasionaLLy deLightfuL creature!) A hypester is a snarky littLe Negative Ned/Nancy who uses aLL avenues of the internet — be it a comment board, bLog, Twitter, Facebook, etc.- to try and start sh*t cuz it’s entertaining. These emotionaL/psychic vampires utiLize or create hype to provoke a reaction out of an internet personaLity, start a fLame war or some weird littLe feud over a triviaL opinion, an emaiL taken out of context or a quirk that they’ve re-cropped w/ their literary, gossip-driven Photoshop to be a personaL offense. The KEY CLUE IS HYPE. For they aLmost never use soLid evidence or reaLity as a means to sway one’s opinion."

You may or may not be aware of a new state law that went into effect on January 1, 2008. We were reminded of this a couple days ago, driving west on Santa Monica Blvd. in Beverly Hills.

Effective Jan 2008 / No smoking allowed / Inside a vehicle / When a Minor is with you
This is important and effective legislation because -- why?!? It is often laughable how the term "liberal" applies to the California legislature not as a derivative of liberty, but more literally, as the over-zealous tendency to invent superfluous laws of little societal or governmental relevance.

"How are you going to MAKE me get off the treadmill?" I wanted to scream at her. "I can TAKE you, old lady!"

It’s true…I’m such a fan of Chuck Palahniuk that even if he squatted over my open mouth and deposited a chocolate, cigar-shaped, sewer serpent into my open mouth, I’d exclaim, “Thank you sir, may I have another.” with a literal shit eating grin emblazoned across my face.

Filter Magazine and the Armand Hammer Museum (10899 Wilshire Blvd.) sponsored a free screening last night of Inland Empire followed by a Q & A with the film's director, David Lynch. Here is a rundown of the event for the folks who could not be there: Me: It is really crowded here, where do I go to see Inland Empire? Mr. Anonymous Hammer Museum Usher (Mr. AHMU): We are filled to capacity. We have...

Every year for the past decade or so, my Dad and I have gone on a short trip to see a different baseball park around this great nation. It's a great father-son bonding thing, and you get to notice the differences between parks. Our beloved Dodger Stadium stands as one of the better parks in the land, but I've noticed it's missing one crucial element. One element that has driven me insane since my youth. The issue is not so much about my personal gripes as it is about our sweet, beloved freedom.
