New rankings released today by CQ Press reveal which of America's cities are the most and least dangerous. Of the over 400 cities evaluated, only three area cities show up in the first 50 most dangerous cities: Compton (#8), San Bernardino (#34) and Inglewood (#44). L.A. Ranked the 'Meanest City' toward Homeless, Mayor's Office Says it's Wrong
A report released yesterday ranked Los Angeles number one out of 273 cities for the treatment of homeless populations. "Homes Not Handcuffs: The Criminalization of Homelessness in U.S. Cities" by the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty and the National Coalition for the Homeless highlights the Safer Cities Initiative--which has spent $6 million on extra police in Skid Row--as a program that traps homeless in the criminal justice system rather than housing.
Bringing Up the Rear: How LA Ranks Nationally for Job Growth
A study released last week ranks American cities in terms of job growth, and groups the results based on the size of the city. And when it comes to the country's "Large" cities, out of 66, the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Glendale Metro Division ranks a discouraging #56 (and 279 out of all 336 cities nationwide).
LAX: 5th Busiest Airport, 10th Best/Worst
LAX has earned it's best rating ever this year -- average. The Daily News reports on the J.D. Power and Associates airport satisfaction study that was released yesterday and finds that LAX is crawling up the list year by year.
