With cloudy skies draping Stadium 1 of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Novak Djokovic pounced on the world’s top player Rafael Nadal’s second serve in the third set to win the 2011 BNP Paribas Open 4-6; 6-3; 6-2.
BNP Paribas Open: Djokovic Doesn't Djoke Around in Indian Wells
BNP Paribas Open: Nadal Sets Up for Djoke
The tennis gods looked down on the BNP Paribas Open and smiled. For the first time since 1995 in Indian Wells, all four men’s semifinalists have a Grand Slam title to their name. Specifically the last four men’s Grand Slam champions are represented dating back to Rafael Nadal winning his first French Open championship at Roland Garros in 2005.
BNP Paribas Open: A Straight Forward Affair
Out in the Southern California desert, the women's semifinals, men's quarterfinals and men's doubles semifinals were completed at the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
LAst Night's Action: Angels, Dodgers Strike Out
Chicago White Sox defeat LA Angels 9-2. The White Sox wasted no time jumping on Angels’ starter Scott Kazmir. After Juan Pierre grounded out to lead off the first, Alexei Ramirez homered to left field for the 1-0 lead. Kazmir walked Andruw Jones to lead off the second inning. That bit Kazmir in the ass when Jones stole second base with Brent Lillibridge batting and scored on Lillibridge’s single...
LAst Night's Action: The Worst of Times, The Best of Times
Ghana defeats US 2-1 (ET). Read my recap of the game. Perhaps the most disheartening development is that the US played four matches in the World Cup without putting together a great game.
Aussie Open Glimpse
"Fucking first serve," Serena Williams screamed out after losing the first set of her fourth-round match against Victoria Azarenka.
LAst Night's Action: No No-No
LA Dodgers defeat Atlanta Braves 3-0. It was Mark Teixeira's double to lead off the eighth inning that broke up Hiroki Kuroda's perfect game. And it was that double that was the only blemish of Kuroda's game who pitched the entire game striking out six, walking none while throwing only 91 pitches in 2:03. Offensively, Blake DeWitt went 3-3 while Nomar Garciaparra smashed a hanging curve to the Dodger bullpen in the fifth inning to drive in James Loney. With the win, the Dodgers reach one game under .500 and are now tied with the Diamondbacks for first place in the NL West.
LAst Night's Action: Bush League in the Big Leagues
Colorado Rockies defeat LA Dodgers 3-0. How pathetic are the Dodgers? The only fireworks they displayed was in the bottom of the eighth inning when Matt Kemp and Rockie's catcher Yorvit Torrealba decided to go bush league and shove each other after getting tangled up after a strike three ball landed on the ground. The benches cleared, and both players got ejected and are likely to receive suspensions. Other than that it was a snoozer of a game. The Dodgers could not figure out Rockie's starter Jeff Francis despite only having one win and an ERA over six.
Wimbledon 2007 Preview
It is my favorite time of the year: The Championships, Wimbledon fortnight. The grass courts at the All England Club hold tradition and the place where legends are born. It was in Centre Court where Roger Federer won his first grand slam in 2003, Bjorn Borg won five consecutive championships from 1976 to 1980 and Pete Sampras cemented his greatness in 2000 eclipsing Roy Emerson in total grand slams won. This year Federer is...
