Dodgers Run and Accept Gifts from Giants
What in the holy name of Davey Lopes is going on here? It’s one thing for Dodgers’ starting pitcher Chad Billingsley (W, 1-0) to take third on the fly ball to right field and taking leads off the bases as if he were an everyday player.
Furcal and Ethier Knock out Latos and Padres
After losing their last six against the San Diego Padres, the last thing anyone expected was for the Dodgers to win. But they did play spoiler knocking Padres wunderkind starter Mat Latos (L, 14-8) out of the game before he could record an out in the sixth inning with a 3-1 victory. Combined with the San Francisco Giants’ 13-0 win over the Chicago Cubs, the Padres now are a ½ game behind the Giants in the NL West.
Why Manny Is Gone
On Friday Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said that the Dodgers would not be inclined to deal away key players while the Dodgers were in playoff contention. He also said that outfielder Manny Ramirez was crucial in the Dodgers making the postseason. Today it was officially announced that the Chicago White Sox would get Ramirez in a straight waiver deal.

The Dodgers claimed Mets’ catcher Rod Barajas through the waivers. He is expected to join the team on Tuesday in Milwaukee with catcher AJ Ellis the prime candidate to being optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque in the corresponding move.

Dodgers Add Another Bed in the Infirmary
Who needs medical school when all you need to do is cover the Dodgers? It surely isn’t get any easier for the Dodgers as they place right-handed pitcher Vicente Padilla on the 15-day disabled list with a bulging disk in his neck. The team will be recalling right-handed relief pitcher Travis Schlichting from Triple-A Albuquerque.

The Nationals placed Dunn on waivers Tuesday afternoon Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle confirmed that the Giants were not that team that claimed Dunn. Schulman went on to speculate that the Dodgers were the team to claim Dunn, however nothing has been confirmed. It is typical of teams not to acknowledge any impending waiver wire transactions until they have been completed.
The Dodgers Daily Infirmary Report
Since these pre-game dilly-wads are reading more like an infirmary report, let’s get it started.
Russell Martin had an MRI done today. The results are not yet known as of this writing. Martin injured himself in the second inning of Tuesday night’s game after not knowing whether to slide around Padres’ catcher Nick Hundley or to run him over.
Dodgers Go from Bad to Worse
As the Dodgers have been sealed in their coffin, the dirt is starting to pour into their grave.
Furcal, Kuo Added to All Star Rosters
The Dodgers have two more entrants to Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game in Anaheim: shortstop Rafael Furcal and left-handed relief pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo.
Furcal Powers Dodgers Past Cubs
Although it was Andre Ethier action figure night, it was Rafael Furcal and his game winning two-run homer in the seventh inning who was the hero for the Dodgers in their 3-2 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Furcal went 3-for-3 and was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning and came up a triple short of the cycle and is batting .500 with 17 runs, four homers and 15 RBI since June 26.
Dodgers Rebound Against Marlins
After they couldn’t quite complete the comeback in last night’s 6-5 loss to the Florida Marlins, the Dodgers uncoiled against them and their starter Chris Volstad (4-8) in their 6-2 win.
“Everybody’s making their contribution,” Dodgers’ manager Joe Torre commented about the win. “[Blake] DeWitt, a couple of stolen bases tonight. We just did a lot of good things tonight.”

The Florida Marlins paid no mind to it and rocked Ely (4-6) to the tune of six runs in 2 2/3 innings and the loss - a deficit too much to overcome for the Dodgers in their 6-5 loss.

Meet Dylan Hernandez, Dodgers Beat Writer for the L.A. Times
Dylan Hernandez, the 28-year-old Dodgers beat writer for the Los Angeles Times, is set to embark on his second full season covering the team. The native Southern Californian and graduate of UCLA has worked for a slew of papers before the Times hired him in 2007. He recently ended one of the more difficult periods in his professional life: covering the Manny Ramirez saga for the Times through sleepless nights and hundreds of stories. I recently caught up with him about the rigors of covering the sport, how traditional sports journalism has been affected by baseball bloggers and what has to happen for the Dodgers to resign Manny Ramirez.
Rafael Furcal Back with Dodgers?
Ken Rosenthal from Fox Sports is reporting that shortstop Rafael Furcal has decided to rejoin the Dodgers. Details of the agreement and whether it's really happening is unclear at this point. This week has seen Furcal going to the Oakland A's and Atlanta Braves, so until something concrete happens, it's best to be wary.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Skirt by Knickerbockers
LA Lakers defeat New York Knicks 116-114. The Lakers are a very infuriating team. They had moments of great defensive stops which led me to believe they play defense only when they want to. They also missed a lot of shots right under their basket by being tentative and trying to lay it in rather than dunking authoritatively. This against a team that has no big man! Even though the Lakers are now 21-3, why does it seem so unfulfilling?
LAst Night's Action: Kings Show Grit in Shootout Loss to Sharks
San Jose Sharks defeat LA Kings 3-2 (SO). The Kings really brought their A-game at the Staples Center against the best team in the league. They took an early 2-0 lead in the first period, but the Sharks naturally came back to tie things up in the second period. However the Kings stayed with it and kept the Sharks scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Kings get a point for the overtime loss, and they are really showing the promise of good things to come in the future.
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Win Two in a Row!
LA Dodgers defeat Cincinnati Reds 6-1. Can the Dodgers play the Reds everyday? Seriously. Not only do the Dodgers score more than one run, they give beleaguered starter Derek Lowe run support. Pitching on a strict count, Lowe pitched only 5 1/3 innings making 85 pitches giving up only one run on three hits with six strikeouts. James Loney helped the cause hitting a solo homer and an RBI double. Dare we wish for three straight wins?
The Dodgers Are Perfect
What a glorious day for baseball. Not too hot, not too cold and a bright blue sky. Well as bright as it can get in LA.
What's Going On Dodgers?
So the guys are in Vero Beach now, and now my sphincter pulsates in anticipation for March 31: Opening Day at Dodger Stadium.
LAst Night's Action: That About Sums It Up
Rockies 10, Dodgers 4 - Los Angeles was swept by Colorado. Again. At home. Where's the heart? Where's the effort? When we looked at the schedule before the season, it looked like LA would be able to propel itself into the playoffs with a bunch of late games against the lowly Rockies. Instead, the Rockies have made a wild card charge on the shoulders of the Boys in Blue. They've won 11 in a row,...
Out with the Old
Fuck Bill Plaschke. Fuck TJ Simers. Fuck the LA Times. Fuck Grady Little. Fuck Ned Colletti. Fuck Frank McCourt. Fuck Jeff Kent. Fuck the Dodgers. When I read Plaschke’s column Wednesday morning that basically put Matt Kemp in the hangman’s noose, my blood started to boil. How does he have the unmitigated gall to scapegoat Kemp and let the veterans have a free pass just because they have “experience”? This entire mess became public...
With the Number Four Goes the Death of the Season
After I declared the Dodger season over last week, they go and make me look like a complete asshole by winning the next four games in convincing fashion. But thanks to the Giants, I didn’t look like a complete asshole. As the Dodgers won game after game, the Giants tanked game after game against the wild card leading Padres. With each win instead of inching closer to the postseason, they were merely jogging on...
Furcal is One Mean Mofo -- Dodgers Destroy The Padres to Become 1.5 Games Away in the NL Wildcard Race
Photo by Jory'z Shotz via Flickr. Ex-Padre David Wells sent his ex-teammates on a loooooooong trip home to San Diego last night. Just when you thought the season was over, the Dodgers win two-in-a-row against the insanely awesome Padres. It was Maddux vs Wells (old vs old?). Wells allowed only 4 hits, Maddux allowed 11 including 2 from Wells himself (his first multi-hit game ever). Dodgers win 6-3. Saito made his impressive 38th save...
