With a 3 a.m. Pacific start time, today's royal wedding, which made commoner Catherine "Kate" Middleton not only the wife of Prince William, but also royalty herself, had DVRs fired up all over the West Coast. Some die-hard royals watchers, romantics, British ex-pats, and party people, however, made a celebration of it, and gathered in pubs in the wee hours to hoist a few pints and glasses of champagne to watch the television coverage of the special event. more ›

Wills & Kate Plus 8 Places in L.A. to Watch the Royal Wedding

Unless you live under a rock (and, if you do, hey, we don't judge) you probably know that Friday, April 29th is the big Royal Wedding, in which Britain's Prince William will marry longtime love, the lovely commoner Catherine "Kate" Middleton in a massive Westminster Abbey ceremony. Now the tavern is opening daily at noon for lunch and, of course, some good beer, including the Pasadena based Craftsman. The lunch menu includes serrano ham with apples, chorizo slider, steamed mussels and a lot more. Here at LAist, we're partial to their amazing grilled cheese. more ›

The 2-Armed Blanket, Booze, & You: It's the Snuggie Pub Crawl

"Blankets are okay, but they slip and slide, and when you need to reach for something, your hands are trapped inside," laments the TV commercial for the Snuggie--the blanket that comes with two arms. Never has "lying on the couch" been made so convenient as it has since the product's arrival on the market. And just when you thought you and your new best friend were relegated to the confines of your own home, an event slated to take place soon in Los Angeles can bring Snuggie-wearing booze-enthusiasts together, out in public. more ›

LAistory: Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin

The name "Baldwin" shows up here and there around the City and County of Los Angeles, like in Baldwin Hills, or on Baldwin Avenue, which runs from El Monte through Temple City and into the foothills in Sierra Madre. Well the Baldwin in question is Elias J. "Lucky" Baldwin, a man who made a name for himself as a real estate maven and as a bit of a wild card in the late 1800s and early years of the 20th Century. His name--and some, say his ghost--still lingers, as do some of the places he built over a century ago. more ›
