The Parents Television Council just released another one of its "reports" which is yet another thinly veiled call for censorship. This time Adult Swim is the target, yes, the network with the word "Adult" in its name. --- If you like baseball then you should watch "The Franchise," nuff said. --- All this and the TV Junkie Must-Watch Plan.
TV Junkie: The PTC Targets Adult Swim
TV Junkie: PTC Wants To Censor Your Hulu; 'Community' on the Bubble
Our good friends at the Parents Television Council, aka idiots, are now going after online video streams by issuing a report that children aren't being safeguarded enough at these websites: Hulu, Comcast's Fancast, AOL's Slashcontrol and AT&T's U-verse. Some of the websites have responded by stating that they aren't targeted at children and teens, have no content meant for children or teens, or they already provide software controls to provide parents with a means to limit their children's access to specific parts of the streams. Shades of Tipper Gore.
TV Junkie: Sesame Street Turns 41; NatGeo Contest; PTC Whines About #@#&!
Happy 41st Birthday to Sesame Street! We grew up watching this show and had our kids watch the program as well after finding it just as educational, relevant, and comforting. Sure, we don't have a lot of emotional investment in some of the newer characters (we need more Guy Smiley!!) but this is still the highest quality program for pre-schoolers available. We're resolved to somehow making it on set in order to fulfill that childhood dream that several million people probably have. Here's to another 41 years Sesame Street!
TV Junkie: Oprah Move? 'Gossip Girl' Boycott; 'NUMB3RS' Numbered
Today's big scuttlebutt is that Oprah may relocate her show from Chicago to Los Angeles by 2011. While this might be more convenient for Oprah and TV executives, we think TV is more competitive and more interesting when it is produced in more locations. If the entertainment industry doesn't want to be labelled as a "bi-coastal elitist" then it should be aware of how this appears.
