Jennifer Perla and seven others, including her sister, were on the way to their Taft High School prom night at the California Science Center when the driver lost control, overturning the vehicle on the 110 Freeway. 16-year-old Perla, the only one not wearing a seatbelt, died when she apparently was thrown from the 2003 Chevrolet SUV. She was wearing a purple dress. "She looked so beautiful in that dress. She was stunning," her older brother told the LA Times. "You just can't imagine. It's horrible. Plain horrible... She was very popular in high school. Very friendly, very loving, beautiful."

"At one time, prom may have been a big popularity contest where the best-looking guy or girl were crowned king and queen. Things have changed and it's no longer just about who has the most friends or who wears the coolest clothes," said Sergio Garcia, who beat out girls to be this year's prom queen, in his campaign to become prom queen, something he said was more of a stunt in the first place. "Sure, I'm not your typical prom queen candidate. There's more to me than meets the eye." At the prom, he'll be wearing a suit.

Every American teenager knows Prom night begins with more virgins than it ends. Arcadia High’s prom took place Saturday, and if its students had gotten jiggy for the first time, it wouldn’t have been because of sexually-suggestive music from the likes of Lil’ Wayne, P. Diddy or Pitbull.

Arcadia High School doesn't want to mess around when it comes to, well, songs that reference all kinds of messing around. Songs that are in heavy rotation right now on the radio and on the iPods of many high schoolers include ones that "glorify prostitution, casual sex, and inspire some major bumping and grinding on the dance floor," explains MomLogic.

Principal Dad has a message for the Sophomore Class of West Beverly Hills High School: ZERO TOLERANCE. In a cheesy video he obviously roped his "actress" daughter into co-starring in with him, he informs the school--well, actually, just the Sophs, that if they get caught at an After Prom Party with alcohol they will be suspended, and if they're suspended, they'll have to go to summer school. Basically "One party can ruin your whole summer." They had a T-shirt made. Also, next week's Season Finale is called "One Party Can Ruin Your Whole Summer," (thanks, DVR!) which leads me to believe that this will indeed happen to one of "our" kids. Uh oh. I can't wait to see how a behavioral infarction is disciplined academically...isn't summer school, like, courses you take? WBHHS, you perplex me. Also: SOPHOMORES? WTF?

Even though we smiled in the pictures in our rented tuxes and frilly dresses, most of us had a shitty time at prom. Some of those haunting memories and major disappointments may have followed us into adulthood, and for some, ruined our lives forever.
