Under 10,000 Customers Still Without Power

About 33,400 customers previously without power are good to go, now the LADWP has some 9,400 to go, as of 9 a.m. this morning. Other than isolated incidents here and there, the utility is reporting that 2,348 customers in Hollywood, 1,757 in Mar Vista and 1,031 in Northridge remain without power.

Fire Causes Power Outage at LAX

A midnight fire on the west side of Los Angeles International Airport is causing some delays this morning. Terminal 6 is experiencing minor delays and officials are asking travelers to give themselves enough time as light signals around the airport have been affected. Other than that, the outage is mostly affecting administrative (non-essential personnel) and tenant buildings. There is no estimate of when the power will be restored.

Power Outages Continue: 13,000 Without Service This Morning

As of 6:30 a.m., the Los Angeles Department of Power and Water reported that approximately 13,195 customers were without power, caused by the season's first storm. That includes 1,200 in South L.A., 4,133 in the Venice/Mar Vista area, 2,230 in Highland Park, 2,000 in Silver Lake, 1,270 in Wilminton and 490 in Park La Brea. Some 26,000 customers have already had their power restored.

All Power Restored in Massive West LA Power Outage

A problem at an electrical distribution station that caused around 20,500 West LA customers to lose power tonight was restored by 9:55 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power. The problem began around 7:40 p.m. causing some 13 people to be trapped in an elevator, traffic jams across Westside neighborhoods and LAPD officers in the West Bureau to go on tactical alert. The basic area where power was knocked out was bordered by the 10 Freeway to the south, Wilshire Blvd. to the north, Sepulveda Blvd to the east and the city of Santa Monica to the west. For the second time, the LADWP gave updates directly to the public via Twitter. Last week, a power outage affecting 6,000 customers in the Hancock Park area was the first time they used Twitter during a major outage.

Outage Leaves 6,000 Without Power in Hollywood Areas

A transformer in a distributing station tripped this morning de-energizing some circuits causing some 6,000 customers to lose power in the Hancock Park/La Brea/South Hollywood area this morning around 7:40 a.m., according to an LADWP spokesperson. By 9:40 a.m., LADWP crews restored power to 3,300 customers and were working to 100% restoration. Fallen Tree in Laurel Canyon Causes Power Outage

It's not the nicest way to wake up on what is a holiday for many: A large tree fell over during the rainstorm this morning in Laurel Canyon, "knocking down three power poles, blocking Wonderland Avenue and interrupting electricity to about 1,700 customers," according to the Daily News.

Power Outages Across LA in Van Nuys, K-Town & Hollywood

Three small power outages have knocked out approximately 1500 customers total in or near Van Nuys, Koreatown and Hollywood. Spread evenly across the three neighborhoods, all outages were due to rain. Crews are currently out working to restore the power, which is expected to happen by this afternoon, weather permitting, according to Stephanie Interiano of the DWP. In Van Nuys, the outage is affecting an area near Van Nuys and Burbank; in Hollywood, near Edgewood and Highland; in Koreatown, by Wilshire & Crenshaw. There are also a few isolated smaller outages near the bigger ones.

A malfunctioning transformer caused a small grass fire and some power outages at LAX late this morning. The outage is affecting three international flights on the remote West end of the airport as DWP workers move to restore power to the area. The planes, each are carrying over 200 passengers to Tokyo, Santiago and Shanghai, cannot leave their gates because the attached pedestrian walkways need electricity to detach.

The National Weather Service out of Oxnard is reporting some gusty wind and some readers are saying their power is out in Echo Park. While some areas in Santa Barbara County have wind gusts of over 50 mph, Malibu is at 49 mph, Burbank at 40, Newhall Pass at 34 and Whittier Hills at 45.

As of 12:30 a.m. tonight, 10,300 LADWP customers went without power throughout the city, primarily due to downed wires from the weather, according to a press release from the city agency.
