About 13,500 LADWP Customers Still Without Power This Morning

After yesterday's rainstorm, crews worked through the night and continue to work this morning to get thousands of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers' service restored. As of 6:30 this morning, about 13,500 of the LADWP's 1.4 million customers were still experiencing "power service interruptions" according to their latest report. Fallen Tree Knocks Out Power to Thousands in Laurel Canyon

A fallen eucalyptus tree was responsible for cutting off power overnight in the area atop Laurel Canyon near Lookout Mountain Avenue, according to KTLA. In response to the multiple calls regarding power outages firefighters expected to find a car crash on the scene, but when they arrived saw "a sizable tree" blocking the whole street, which had "broke[n] two wooden utility poles and knocked out a transformer when it fell." About 2,000 DWP customers were affected, but as crews worked to restore power, as of now only about 700 people remain without electricity, according to the LADWP. No Weather Means No New Power Outages

No Weather Means No New Power Outages

Things have calmed down weather-wise (did you go for a hike yet?) and we're hearing of only a few areas without service. Southern California Edison, which experienced 676,587 outages last week, is only reporting down service in mountain and rural areas where lines are in rough terrain and other hard to reach areas. Lake Arrowhead, Blythe and Forest Falls remain without power, but should have it restored by tomorrow morning. More locally, the LADWP has not reported any outages via Twitter since Friday. more ›
