A historic piece of property has just gone up for sale: The redwood hangar where eccentric millionaire and aviation icon Howard Hughes (pictured) built and housed the "Spruce Goose." The hangar was set up in the early 40s when Hughes was awarded a wartime government contract, and, according to the LA Times, "is now used mainly for movie and television shoots." It is located in what is now the Playa Vista Development. In 1998, when work began on the site for Playa Vista, plans were to incorporate the 11 Hughes buildings on the premises as part of "the Campus at Playa Vista, a new entertainment, media and technology complex."

The Clippers finally broke ground on their long overdue practice facility on Thursday afternoon, a 42,500 square foot facility at Playa Vista. The facility is scheduled to be completed early next year, outfitted with the same quality of equipment as you’d find at Sports Club LA (minus all of the beautiful, surgically enhanced clientele). With $25 million invested into the project, now Elton Brand, Cat Mobley, et al will finally have a legitimate place to...

In a coup of who cares, the LA Times Home section today features a story on the sleep industry. Yawn. The lead, with 9 whole pictures of the Getty Villa's gardens, is better than usual for them. But click on over to the NY Times and once again, our hometown rag wilts in comparison. The NY paper does what shelterporn is supposed to: it stirs lust in your breast, for beautifully photographed plants, for a $1.5 million brownstone, even a chaste lust for your very own bow-tie wearing butler. Meanwhile back home we cover snoring. That's not shelterporn; it's shelter, old married couple with separate beds style.

Even more impressive is that Donald Sterling is funding the whole $20 million facility himself, leading some to believe that his super cheapskate days may be coming to an end.

The Los Angeles City Council also approved the new Taco Bell, 13-0, on Nov. 9. The Mar Vista district's Council Member Cindy Miscikowski voted in favor of a proposed zone variance that allows more compact parking spaces than would otherwise be required.

Candidates are going to need full coffers in order to pay for the heavy TV advertising necessary to compete in this spring's election.

Developers will finally have their way with the Ballona Wetlands, as the Los Angeles City Council has given the go ahead to plans to construct a second phase of the Playa Vista mixed-use development (click on the project web site just for the corny flash intro and mind-numbing Muzak soundtrack. Priceless schmaltz!).
