LA Dodgers defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 8-1. I left work late, so I missed the six runs the Dodgers scored in the first two innings. Apparently Matt Kemp avoided a run down by playing dead. Really. Brad Penny pitched a strong 5 2/3 innings and closer Takashi Saito pitched a perfect ninth to come back from his disastrous outing Monday night. James Loney has now gotten a hit in the first 15 games, and Rafael......

LA Lakers defeat Sacramento Kings 124-101. No tacos for the fans, but joy still rang out with the Lakers clinching the #1 seed in the Western Conference for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. If anyone predicted this 57-25 season after the chaos of last summer that simmered through training camp, they are liars. It's amazing what the emergence of Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, the bench and the Pau Gasol heist can do......

Pittsburgh Pirates defeat LA Dodgers 6-4. The Dodgers were leading 4-3 in the top of the ninth, and I had just finished writing this blurb. Dodger closer Takashi Saito gave up two singles then the Earl Weaver to the Pirates Nate McClouth. This was a rough loss despite a good outing by Hiroki Kuroda who gave up three runs on six innings. Andruw Jones hit a triple and look to resemble the hitter we......

I love manager ejections. I love it when the manager gets up in the ump’s grill and lets him have it. With that said, it seems to me that Grady Little has the tamest ejections in the history of baseball (click on the appropriate linky for a video of the ejection). More on baseball meltdowns later. A serious cause of concern came in the bottom on the ninth in Sunday’s 5-4 win against the......

My Boyfriend was at it again. He hit is first career grand slam Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Not only was it merely a grand slam, he hit it in the bottom of the tenth tied 3-3. This only adds fuel to my argument that he is the MVP of this team. As for this team, I’m plenty happy with them right now. After watching a preseason game against the Angels of Anaheim......

Maybe LAist has been covering a lot of Dodgers lately and we should think about something else for once. Wrong! They're winning! They've got the best record in the MLB! Let us bask in the glory while it lasts! Meanwhile, yesterday's game was just plain silly. Three errors in three innings, players falling down on their faces, five broken bats, drizzly rain to make the Dodger Dogs just soggy enough, it all added up......

Pretty amazing game at Chavez Ravine last night. 48,995 (announced) fans watched the Dodgers come from behind and beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 on a dramatic 10th-inning grand slam by Russell Martin. Better Known Friends of the Column, Joe Beimel (pitched a scoreless 8th against the heart of the Pirate order) and Wilson "El Gato" Valdez (scored the tying run in the bottom of the 9th on some aggressive baserunning, pictured), also contributed heartily to......

Three Dodger pitchers combined on a 2-hit shutout, and Nomar Garciaparra hit a 2-run single to lead Los Angeles to a 3-0 victory last night over the Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium. Left-handed set-up relief pitcher Joe Beimel was not one of the pitchers involved in the shutout. Nevertheless, Mr. Beimel does have the good fortune of being the subject in Part 2 of our 436-Part series, "Better Know a Dodger". Joseph Ronald Beimel......

Some might call it acting in lock-step, some might call it a grand and fitting tribute to an American hero. Today the Pittsburgh Pirates announced that every one of their players will don Jackie Robinson's number 42 on their jerseys on Sunday, the 60th anniversary of the day Robinson broke the color barrier in major league baseball. In an unprecedented move, the number was retired from all MLB teams ten years ago, only being......

Welcome news today for all you herbivore fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The sudden disappearance of the vegetarian Dodger dog looks to be short-lived. What, you ask? Seriously, for the past few years Dodger Stadium has been one of the few Major League ballparks with seriously top-notch soy dogs in house. The veggie dogs were only available at two specific stands (one in the reserved seats level, and one in the lower box......

With Halloween coming up soon, thoughts are beginning to turn to costumes. You can always be sure of spotting at least one pirate at every party, although with the success of Pirates of the Caribbean, and the upcoming sequel(s), rest assured that there will be plenty more Jack Sparrows out there this year. So, where better to begin your quest for an outfit and booty than at an entirely pirate themed shop? That's right......

Don't look now, but the Dodgers are actually playing better these days. After a 7-4 win over the Braves, the Dodgers wound up taking two of three from the NL East leaders, and have won five of their last seven. The Azul are now just four games behind the Padres in the weak NL West. What's impressive is the way the Dodgers have won some of their games. In the past week it's been......
