Councilmember Eric Garcetti says the perimeter has been reduced by about 25%, with the boundaries now Oxnard to the north, Canzonet to the South, Fallbrook to the East and Valley Circle to the West. All the exits from the 101 are open. Authorities are urging that residents of the perimeter be patient.

Search for Suspects Shuts Down Area in Boyle Heights
A shootout between police and three suspects this morning prompted the LAPD to shut down an area of Boyle Heights as they began a manhunt. Still reportedly ongoing in the area around Cesar Chavez and Soto, police are searching for three male hispanics, approximately 24 to 27 years old, according to the LAPD. At 11:53 a.m., undercover officers from the city of Huntington Park--it's unknown why they were in L.A. city limits--observed the suspects engage in a burglary. The suspects shot at the officers, who in turn shot back. No one was hit, but the suspects escaped on foot.
Burglary Prompts LAPD to Close Area Around Wilshire/Highland
A 12:15 p.m. call to police from someone who apparently saw two people breaking into a home on or near the 4900 block of Wilshire Boulevard prompted the the LAPD to shut the area down, forming a perimeter for a manhunt. Both suspects were recently taken into custody and the perimeter should be taken down, if not already, allowing traffic to resume. UPDATE: KTLA says the suspects were hiding in a storage shed and taken into custody by SWAT.
Second Suspect Finally Caught After Sherman Oaks Perimeter Search
Now here's a humorous ending to yesterday's manhunt for an armed robbery suspect. Although he evaded police during a five-hour search and closure of a few block area, his continued tomfoolery landed him in cuffs. A perimeter has been set up in Sherman Oaks as police search for a robbery suspect currently at-large. At some point this morning, officers observed wanted robbery suspects in the parking of lot of Rite-Aid at Riverside and Fulton. One was taken into custody, but another ran, according to police.

Up to a million people were expected to be hanging around the perimeter of Michael Jackson's memorial service this morning at the Staples Center. But walking downtown streets a few blocks away, the scene was relatively normal, save for the heavy police presence, the constant drone of helicopters and a handful of vendors selling Michael Jackson buttons and t-shirts.
