Segment of PCH in Malibu Could Stay Closed Until Friday

A portion of the Pacific Coast Highway west of Malibu will remain closed, possibly until Friday, according to Malibu Patch. "The nine-mile stretch from Neptune's Net at Yerba Buena Road to Las Posas Road had been expected to reopen Monday at 6 p.m., but the weekend rain has prevented this from happening." PCH Closed After Tree Falls on Bus in Pacific Palisades

A section of the Pacific Coast Highway was closed this morning after part of a tree fell on a bus around 8 a.m. in the area of Chautaqua Boulevard. The tree fell onto some power lines and a Metro Route 534 bus, knocking out electrical service to about 1,200 customers, according to Kim Hughes of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. At 7:53 a.m., Ventura County Fire dispatchers received calls of a wildfire in Point Mugu State Park's La Jolla Canyon north of Malibu. As of 8:55 a.m., it burned 10 acres of brush on the westside of the canyon, according to Capt. John Alford of the Ventura County Fire Department. Dominate northeast winds are blowing the fire towards the top of a sheer cliff where the Pacific Coast Highway lays below and the ocean 50 ft away. more ›

Brush Fire in Malibu Leads to Murder Investigation

PCH FireA small brush fire that began early last night is under investigation for the possibility of murder and arson. The fire near the Pacific Coast Highway and Topanga Canyon was first reported at 6:27 p.m. and burned three to four acres before being knocked down at 7:08 p.m., according to LA County Fire over the phone. Firefighters noticed a vehicle in the fire and upon further investigation, found a dead body inside. Calls made to the LA County Sheriff's Department described "persons fleeing the area," says the LA Times. A fire that began with a spark of lightning in Big Sur is now responsible for burning over 42 acres and is reportedly only 3 per cent contained. A 12-mile segment of the Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1) has been closed down as firefighters work to control the blaze. Over 1,000 fires have been burning in Northern California for the past week, many of which were ignited by lightning strikes.
