Nearly $10 Million Owed to LAUSD by Teachers Who Were Mistakenly Overpaid

Remember last when in 2007 a major LAUSD computer glitch caused thousands of teachers to go without a paycheck while other teachers, including former ones six feet under, got paid extra? That's all fixed now, but the school district is still seeking $9.4 million from 2,400 current and former employees.

If you are employed in the entertainment industry in this town then it's likely that you have gotten paid at some point though Axium-Avalon Payroll services. Over the last 10 years they have been the payroll service for almost every job I have had. Including my current company.

In a story of truly fucked notions, the LAUSD is short $53-million because they overpaid around 36,000 employees due to a rushed installation and implementation of Business Tools for Schools, a payroll system that couldn't handle calculating the nuances of a teacher's "complicated job assignments and unusual work schedules," according to the LA Times.
