Matt Belknap is changing the way people experience comedy. As founder of Aspecialthing.com , Matt's created a place where comedy nerds, whether they be fans or the artists themselves, can discuss the art form they love so much. But Belknap isn't only a comedy fan. He runs See You Next Tuesday at the UCB Theater, is producer of and panelist on Never Not Funny, one of the I-Tunes picks for best Podcasts of '06 and......

Over the last few months, there have been rumblings about a possible Largo concert film. And 24 hours ago, a trailer popped up on YouTube that confirmed it all. Produced by Largo owner Mark Flanagan and Andrew van Baal, the film will be sure to highlight the intimate magic of this unassuming venue on Fairfax Ave. Featuring snippets of performances by Jon Brion, Fiona Apple, Paul F. Tompkins, Zach Galifianakis, Nickel Creek, Grant Lee......

Remember Green Jell-O? Remember when they had to change their name to Green Jelly? Remember when they were given their own studio on Hollywood Blvd. a few blocks east of the Palladium to dig into their endless banks of creativity and bring back gooey nuggets of rock? Remember how they don't have that studio any more and now they have to open for Metal Skool? We kid our local Gwarabees. The Roots @ Avalon......

If you're undaunted by rain or the rain-induced traffic, you haven't grown soft like so many Angelenos. You know you won't melt! In other cities it rains all the time! Maybe you're just dying to get out tonight, but don't know what's going on. LAist contributor Jen Sincero will be performing in the two-woman show Spinster at the M Bar tonight in Hollywood; doors open at 7, play starts at 8pm. Comedian Paul F.......

We get a lot of press releases here at LAist, and it isn't like us to simply repeat them. But when it comes to telling you about the Sarah Silverman performance at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater tomorrow night at 9:30pm (5 bucks!), we have to pass this along intact: The first time Sarah Silverman performed at UCB Theatre, she nonchalantly unwrapped a tampon while performing her material, took a sip of water, put......

Our best pictures are of The Sugarplastic but we left the Great American Smokeout Benefit Show last night most impressed with Space MTN. Dina Waxman's sad songs about loss and past relationships gone bad mixed with her deadpan banter in between songs were oddly appropriate for this night of jokes and music centered around that most hilarious of subjects: Cancer. The evening began with a short speech by a Doctor from Kaiser Permanente who......

We don't know how else to say it except like this: Fuck Cancer! Breast cancer, throat cancer, stomach cancer, all of it. Kiss our ass, Cancer! Especially lung cancer which is the leading cause of cancer deaths in this country and the most preventable. Take those sexy cigarettes and break 'em up, throw them in the trash and never look back. LAist had, for a long time, been seduced by the allure of attractive......

The literary quarterly (and probably one of the more bizarrely published things out there today, with the slight exception of Found Magazine) presents an evening of comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. A variety of reasons might take you to this show, but the first and foremost should be the appearance of Paul F. Tompkins, gentleman comedian. And Zoey Deschanel ain't half bad either. Show is this Wednesday night at 9:30pm at the......

This past Thursday LAist had the pleasure of wandering a sort of semi-timewarp at the M Bar. Stepping from 2005 into the 1940s, we watched the wonder that is "The Thrilling Adventure and Supernatural Suspense Hour". Stuck in a strip mall, although surprisingly anachronistic on the inside, the M Bar is a perfect venue for this show. Several local actors and comedians take part on the first Thursday of every month in this form......

LAist made the mistake of tuning in to Fox's Kelsey Grammer presents: The Sketch Show (they might want to trim that title...or the whole show) last night, and we will forever be longing to have those wasted 30 minutes returned to our lives. Apparently someone at Fox had the brilliant idea that this successful British comedy show in the vein of "Monty Python" and "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" could survive an American version, but......

After the thrill of the weekend, LAist is afraid tonight's entertainment is a mite sparse. Have some comedy or a little music—there's always karaoke at The Bigfoot Lounge—and relax away the dreaded Monday. Enjoy a laugh at Largo tonight with the Paul F Tompkins Show. You might remember Paul from his appearances on "Mr Show," or if you are a fan of "Real Time with Bill Maher," you will recognize Paul as the smarmy......
