Boston based synth-pop outfit Passion Pit came through Los Angeles for what seemed to be the 100th time on Tuesday, December 7. Yet devotees of their 2009 release, Manners, packed into the Palladium ready to hear their keyboard-heavy tunes as if it were their first show. This performance was a victory lap of sorts as the band winds down and prepares to do it all again sometime next year when their sophomore LP is released.
Danceability VS Scott Pilgrim: Passion Pit, Mister Heavenly @ Hollywood Palladium (12/7/10)
Tonight In Rock: Passion Pit, Kitten, Eastern Conference Champions, Big Freedia
Tonight local indie rockers Kitten will be taking on the Echo one last time with none other than local indie rockers Red Cortez (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4) and the Sea of Cortez, who are touring in anticipation of their yet-to-be-released studio debut, 2010's Make It Sound. LA-based rock outfit Eastern Conference Champions are poised to grace the Hotel Café in anticipation of their latest full-length;2011's SPEAK-AHH. And, lastly, New Orleans-bred "sissy bounce" act Big Freedia will be headlining the Echoplex. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into the Hollywood Palladium tonight to catch Cambridge-bred electro-pop outfit Passion Pit (LAist Review). LAist favorites, Silver Lake-based indie pop act Pepper Rabbit and Long Beach-based indie rockers We Barbarians.
2010 KROQ Weenie Roast, Verizon Amp. 06/05/10
If one took a quick glance at the lineup for this year's installment of KROQ's annual early summer bash, the Weenie Roast, you might think you had stepped into a time machine (Hot Tub or Delorean, your choice) and were blasted back to the Mid-Nineties. With Hole, Stone Temple Pilots, Devo and Sublime all at the top of the bill, nostalgia was the name of the game at this Weenie Roast.
Tonight In Rock: Bob Dylan, Passion Pit, Junior Boys, The Temper Trap
Tonight iconic folk rock singer-songwriter Bob Dylan will be taking on the second night of a three-date stint at the Hollywood Palladium. Cambridge-bred electro-pop outfit Passion Pit (LAist Review) are poised to perform to a sold-out crowd at the Henry Fonda Music Box. And, lastly, Melbourne-based indie rock buzz band the Temper Trap will be headlining on the Roxy with Canadian rock outfit Jets Overhead. But we strongly suggest heading over to the El Rey Theatre to catch Canadian electro pop duo the Junior Boys. Berlin-by-way-of-Vancouver electronic mastermind Circlesquare is slated to kick things off.
Tonight In Rock: Jon Brion, Animal Collective, Passion Pit, Brightblack Morning Light
Tonight, as always, local multi-instrumentalist/producer extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Interview, #2, Review) will be jamming with friends at the Largo at the Coronet. Baltimore-based avant-gardists Animal Collective (LAist Review, #2) are headlining a sold-out show at the Wiltern with Portland's own experimental folk songstress Grouper. Montreal-bred DJ/producer Tiga will be gracing the Avalon with James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem opening on the decks. And, lastly, New Mexico-based psych folk rockers Brightblack Morning Light will be sharing the stage at Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock with Brooklyn's own folk songstress Rio En Medio. The irony here, of course, is that the actual Rio En Medio, or "river in between," can be found in New Mexico; perfect pairing. But we strongly suggest doing whatever it takes to get into the Echoplex to catch Cambridge-bred electro-pop outfit Passion Pit (LAist Review). LAist favorites Brooklyn-based indie rockers Harlem Shakes are slated to kick things off.
Tonight In Rock: Fleetwood Mac, Ben Harper, St. Vincent, Passion Pit, The Wooden Birds

And, lastly, Tulsa-based songstress St. Vincent will be gracing the El Rey Theatre with Philadelphia-based band of brothers Pattern Is Movement. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch former American Analog Set front man Andrew Kenny's latest project the Wooden Birds.

This week legendary British/American rock band Fleetwood Mac will be headlining the Staples Center in Downtown. Tonight In Rock: Jason Mraz, Rise Against!, She & Him, Yelle
We're pooped from yesterday's festivities, but there are far too many shows to stay in tonight. Portland-based alt-country duo She & Him, or rather Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, will be performing at the Wiltern with LA's own Lavender Diamond. Local pop rockers the Parson Red Heads will be gracing Spaceland with the Spires. And rock trio the 88 will be ringing in their new album, Not only...But also, with Dhani Harrison's thenewno2 at the Troubadour. And, lastly, Hella front man Zach Hill will be performing 2008's Necromancer in its entirety at the Smell in Downtown. But we recommend heading over to the Henry Fonda Music Box to catch Boston-based electro-pop sensation Passion Pit. We saw a whole lot of them at 2008's CMJ Festival and they did not disappoint.
