I never liked the word "cougar" to refer to sexy middle-aged women because it has such a predatory connotation. But because of its usefulness, I have let go of my distaste and accepted it. Now Retirement Living TV has a new show called Another Chance for Romance that hooks up sexy seniors. It made me realize that we need a new word for sexy seniors. We already have the name "silver fox" for gentlemen......

Sure, you could always stay in and watch reruns of [insert name of your favorite show here], but why bother when you have these things happening tonight to get you through hump day. WORDS The West LA Chapter of the Sierra Club hosts a lecture by UCLA Professor David Haake who’ll focus on the question, “Do green choices make financial sense?” The evening will also offer steps on how you can reduce your carbon......

So The Colber(t) Repor(t) and The Daily Show are back and while Colbert, Stewart, Kimmel, and Conan are all nimble on their feet, and very funny and engaging, it's amazing how the success of all these shows really comes down to the writing. It's great to have them all back on the air and it does provide us all with some late night alternatives, but I hope NBC, ABC, and Viacom come to their senses......

I know our city hasn’t had an NFL team in over a decade, but that doesn’t mean the NFL is dead in this city. Since most of us Angelinos come from other parts of the country, we still hold on to our hometown football teams. Even though I grew up in Baton Rouge, LA until I was eight, I am a huge Chicago Bears fan. My first recollection of football was Superbowl XX which......

Former #1 overall NFL draft pick and infamous egomaniac** Keyshawn Johnson was a wideout for the Carolina Panthers as of last weekend. When his team drafted USC receiver Dwayne Jarrett (a fellow Trojan) in the second round, he got excited and started talking about mentoring the new kid. Then Carolina cut Johnson from the team to make room for Jarrett. Ouch. This may be sweet justice as far as Jarrett is concerned. Towards the......

Lakers 121, Grizzlies 119 - It's March Madness, but the most impressive hoops action keeps coming from a guy who never played a minute of college ball. Kobe had 60 points against Memphis, but it wasn't just his one game point total that generated buzz. This is the third game in a row he has scored at least 50, a feat only matched by Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan, Elgin Baylor. Chamberlain actually did it seven......

A Word or 24: The now much-maligned Lost is back. OK so this is a bad show compared to what else on (basic cable) TV right now? Tonight - Wednesday - February 7th, 2007 Sharks @ Ducks (Fox Sports, 7:00 p.m.) College Basketball: USC @ UCLA (PRIME, 7:30 p.m) Friday Night Lights (NBC, 8:00 p.m.) Racial tension brews in the Panthers locker room, or is it the Jaguars? Some kind of animal. Criminal Minds/CSI:......

Lakers 118, Wizards 102 - Some say the Gilbert Arenas - Kobe Bryant rivalry has sprouted, and LAist is pretty sure it's budding. Both players have denied any personal friction despite mild trash talking in the media. Their exciting play against each other in Washington demonstrated talent and mutual admiration. Kobe had 39 points and Arenas had 37, several of which came on spectacular plays against one another.     Kings 7, Panthers 0 - It wasn't the Miracle On Ice, but it......

A Word or 56: Thankfully I was doing my radio show last night and was spared the State of the Union, and therefore, a really bad hangover. It was (somewhat) reassuring to see some livid polarized response but half the time I feel like these guys are going through the motions. Two ways to disgust yourself tonight are: Crawlspace on IFC and Primetime: Medical Mysteries, enjoy. Tonight - Wednesday - January 24th, 2007 Crawlspace......

One Minute Review: So Courteney Cox Arquette's new venture, 'Dirt', was, as Borat would say, "Dirt from anus". Also, did anyone catch Letterman last night? The first half of the show was devoted to jokes about Saddam's execution, including the Top Ten. I don't think it went over that well, except for maybe at the White House. Tonight - Wednesday - January 3rd, 2007 Blue Jackets @ Kings (Fox Sports, 7:30 p.m.) "Friday Night......

Lakers 102, Rockets 94 - It wasn't supposed to be this hard. The Lakers were crushing Houston by 27 points in the fourth quarter. Luke Walton was still hot with 18 points and 7 assists. Kobe was icing his knees on the bench ("almost like Red Auerbach smoking the cigar" as he described it). Then the Lakers stoped scoring. The Rockets pulled within two points and Kobe went back in to ice something else:......

Reggie Bush is the New Kobe Bryant In terms of scandal. An eight month investigation has led "investigators" to the conclusion that Reggie and his family accepted over $100,000 in itemized bribes from prospective agents while he was in college. Now look, I may be a Bruin, and I may love Bruin football and despise Trojan football with all my heart and soul - but you gotta' love Reggie. Reggie Bush is and will......

It is no secret that whomever stepped up to the plate after the departure of LAist's great sports mind, Phillip Wallace, had huge shoes to fill. We've gone through several false starts with a few different people attempting to tackle (writer's note - do you love how we're running with the football metaphors on Championship Sunday?) the daunting challenge of covering the endless number of sports teams and sports stories of the Southland. Then......

As if introducing the song from Polar Express at the Oscars wasn't proof enough that P. Diddy would show up to the opening of a can of catfood, he spoke today at the funeral of Johnnie Cochran. There were lots of impressive attendees, of course -- Rev. Jesse Jackson, Elmer "Geronimo" Pratt of the Black Panthers -- but Puffy made sure to get a spot at the mic. On April 1st SOHH reported that......

It's official. Arte Moreno has announced his team will now be called the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Now the Angels have come full circle, after they were originally named the Los Angeles Angels, because they played in the City of Angels. But California Angels never quite worked, and who wants to be called the Anaheim Angels? The name Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim sounds absolutely absurd. But Arte Moreno knows exactly what he's......
