Police aren't sure why a man was shot and killed on the sidewalk in Pacoima while he was walking home from the store.
Luis Enrique Silva, 27, was shot to death just before 11pm last night near the intersection of Remick Avenue and Louvre Street. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

Pacoima Train Jumped Tracks, Buses Being Offered to Commuters
A derailed freight train in Pacoima means that some folks will have to take buses for their morning commute, reports NBC Los Angeles. No one was hurt when the train jumped the tracks at about 10:00 p.m. last night on the Antelope Valley line that runs between Newhall and downtown Burbank.
LAFD Responding to Explosion at Commercial Building [UPDATED]
The Los Angeles Fire Department are responding to a reported explosion at a commercial building located at 12349 Gladstone Avenue, which is near the 210 Foothill Freeway in the San Fernando/Pacoima area.
The building has suffered a partial collapse, there are at least four people with serious injuries, and more people may be trapped inside.

The Los Angeles Police Department have released information regarding two planned Sobriety and License checkpoints for this weekend. Tonight they will be set up in Pacoima near the I-5 and 118 Freeway interchange on Van Nuys Boulevard between Laurel Canyon and Remick Avenue from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Drunk Driver Was Asleep at the Wheel...and On the Train Tracks
A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of being intoxicated after he passed out at the wheel of his vehicle, which happened to be stopped on train tracks in Pacoima. A freight train struck the vehicle at around 1:15 this morning, reports KTLA. In the collision, the vehicle "was then clipped by the train, spun around and pushed into a railroad crossing arm." The driver sustained minor injuries, his car was totaled, and the freight train was undamaged. A field sobriety test conducted by responding officers led to the driver's arrest for a DUI.
Man Struck and Killed By Metrolink Train Last Night
A young man died last night after being struck by a Metrolink Train, according to the Daily News. The 19-year-old man, whose name as not been released, was struck at around 8 p.m. on the tracks near Pierce Street and San Fernando Road. "Nobody on the outbound Metrolink train was injured," notes the West Ranch Beacon, adding that LAPD "investigators are trying to determine how he ended up in the train’s path."
Abandoned Vehicle Complaints Ignored by LADOT, Say Residents
So much for community policing and broken windows theory in a neighborhood that really needs it. The Daily News today reported that, despite apparent attempts to notify the city of abandoned vehicles -- 72 hours on a city street without moving is considered abandoned -- vehicles are sitting on Pacoima neighborhood streets for months, sometimes even years.
Two 11-Year-Old Girls Sneak Out of Home, Now are Missing [Updated]
Two young girls who apparently snuck out of their Pacoima homes to go the park last night never returned home, according to the LAPD. Anna Lopez and Ruby Zapata, both 11 years old, reportedly headed to Pacoima Park in the Northeast Valley at about 9 p.m.

An apparent loud family birthday party in Pacoima drew a large police response in the early hours of Sunday morning, which was partially caught on video. New 902 Bus Line Expected to Relieve Orange Line Congestion
Orange Line riders might have some more rush-hour wiggle room when they travel the busway later this month. On December 13th, Metro will deploy service enhancements, including a new peak hour bus line that's expected to reduce Orange Line crowds.
"Van Nuys is the second most popular stop on the Orange Line" explained Metro Spokesman Dave Sotero. Line 902 will reduce travel time and eliminate a transfer for riders traveling between the Red Line Subway and the Northeast Valley.

LA's 137th Murder of 2009
LA Weekly is tracking every murder within Los Angeles city limits and yesterday in Pacoima, the 137th for 2009 occurred. Yesterday, "30-year-old Gerardo Cruz was standing out in front of his girlfriend's house with her brother drinking beer when three alleged gang members jumped out of their blue compact car and 'shot up the place.'" Although gang related, police said Cruz was not affiliated with any gangs. This was the fourth homicide in the LAPD's Foothill Division this month. Citywide, homicides are significantly down--around 32%--compared to last year.
Small Airpane Lands on Street in The Valley
No injuries have been reported after a small "ultrasport light aircraft" landed on a busy Pacoima street in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. Just after 9:15 p.m., the plane had just taken off from the nearby Whiteman Airport when it experienced engine problems forcing it to go down through power lines, making a hard landing on San Fernando Rd. at Filmore St. as vehicles veered out of the way. Valley Pool Re-Opens Today
The pool at Ritchie Valens Park in Pacoima closed last springs for repairs, which was not exactly good timing for the summer season in a not-so-good neighborhood in a city traditionally known for little recreation space per capita. Councilman Richard Alarcon's office said that "due to the age of the City’s pools, the Department of Recreation and Parks is unable to fully discern the condition of the pool until the Spring when the pools are filled and cracks and leaks can be discovered." The good news today is that the pool re-opens this morning to the public.

A scuffle between a group of teens that apparently knew each other left one 14-year-old shot and killed. The incident happened last night around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Van Nuys and Glen Oaks Boulevards in the Valley neighborhood of Pacoima.
Bloody Tuesday: Stay Safe on those Streets!
Morning headlines today have not been an exemplary one for public safety, both accident and crime-wise. The big ticket item was the eastbound 10 Freeway being closed in Covina after a 4:45 a.m. accident between a van and motorcycle that left the two-wheeler dead. All lanes were closed and one was reported open at 7 a.m. Also in Norwalk, a five-car crash caused three soundbound lanes on the 605 to be closed shortly before 8 a.m. There were several injuries, but none warranting transport to the hospital.
Arrest Made in Last Night's Pacoima Drive By Shooting
Last night, 20 year old Ricardo Hernandez was killed by gunfire in a gang-related shooting in Pacoima. The incident took place in the 11800 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard.
