A suspected car thief led police on an early morning pursuit today from Del Rey to Pacific Palisades. While the chase lasted for 45 minutes, the heisted vehicle was not one of exceptional speed. It was a Toyota Prius.

A fatal car crash occurred on Pacific Coast Highway today around midnight. After crashing into a pole on PCH, a Ford Focus burst into flames, according to The Daily Breeze. The accident leaves one mad dead and six others injured.

Out on Pacific Coast Highway, where Santa Monica transitions into the Palisades, a large tank that was Banksy-fied with the words "This Looks a Bit Like an Elephant," has not only been removed, but is up for sale. But that tank wasn't just a tank--it was someone's home.
Actor Peter Fonda Finds Dead Body In Parked Car
Actor Peter Fonda spied something out of the ordinary yesterday while driving on Sunset Boulevard in the Pacific Palisades: A man's body, slumped over the front seat in a parked car, according to KTLA.
The man was dead, and, according to some reports, may have been inside the vehicle for three days, after he committed suicide. An official cause of death, or an identity, for the man has not been released.
Palisades Tap Water a Little Fishy? DWP Explains.
If you live in the Pacific Palisades area you may have noticed that something is a little fishy these days when it comes to your tap water. Customers have reported "a disagreeable odor" at the tap. The LA DWP explains: "the odors are the result of a recent algal bloom in the Santa Ynez Reservoir which serves the Palisades." Next month the reservoir was due to be taken out of service to have a floating cover installed; a cover will "protect the quality of the water in it and prevent any future algal blooms." The DWP says the water might smell foul, but it remains safe to drink.
L.A. Power Outage Update: Over 8,000 Without Power
Prior to a 3 p.m. press conference about the outages and energy conservation, the Los Angeles Department of Power and Water is reporting that power has been restored to about 3,000 customers. What neighborhoods are still in the dark? Hollywood (965 customers), Mar Vista (925), Los Feliz (879), Cypress Park (535), Brentwood (393), Bel Air (372), Mount Olympus (356), Echo Park (349), Cheviot Hills (317) and Pacific Palisades (301). "Our crews won’t stop til the job is done," the agency tweeted.
Spotted in Pacific Palisades: A Mountain Lion
Authorities are on the lookout for a mountain lion reportedly seen in Pacific Palisades. Around 11:43 p.m. on Wednesday, police were alerted to a large 150 to 250-pound cat near Temescal Canyon Road and Sunset Boulevard. Shortly after, officers thought they may had cornered the cougar at Palisades Charter High School, but reports indicate it was never captured by animal service officers.

More Great White Shark Breaching Caught on Video
With more than 20 confirmed sightings of sharks breaching at Sunset Beach in Pacific Palisades last Summer, this year might be no different. A local surfer spoke to KTLA last night saying that he's spotted a dozen shark breaches last week at Will Rogers Beach, even catching a few on videotape (watch the video here). At least one of those has been confirmed as a Great White by expert Ralph Collier at the local non profit Shark Research Committee. Collier says sharks do not typically pose a threat to humans. And most surfers seem to be happy to hit the waves and share the waters with them.
PCH Closed After Tree Falls on Bus in Pacific Palisades
A section of the Pacific Coast Highway was closed this morning after part of a tree fell on a bus around 8 a.m. in the area of Chautaqua Boulevard.
The tree fell onto some power lines and a Metro Route 534 bus, knocking out electrical service to about 1,200 customers, according to Kim Hughes of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. No injuries were reported. Eastbound PCH remained closed between Las Tunas beach and Temescal Canyon Road while crews worked to clear the scene.

Police to Patrol Westside Less, Residents Not Happy

The LAPD now has a plan that will move 26 officers from the West Los Angeles Division to other areas of higher crime in a reorganization of patrol areas because two new stations are opening--one in Koreatown and another in the West Valley.
Cyclist Strikes, Kills Pedestrian in Pacific Palisades
A sexagenarian woman walking across the street was killed when she was struck by a 16-year-old teen who was riding his bicycle to band practice. The 6:51 a.m. incident happened on the 500 block of Palisades Drive, just north of Sunset Blvd, according to the LA Fire Department who transferred the teen to hospital.

A fire near Will Rogers State Historic Park was reported at around 2:00 p.m. today, but was put out in just under an hour thanks to the 64 firefighters on the scene.
LAPD Lines Up 3 Sobriety Checkpoints Tonight
Earlier this week, the LAPD announced one sobriety checkpoint taking place tonight in the Valley. This morning, they announced two more, one in Harbor area and another on the Westside. From 6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., they will be on Avalon Boulevard between Opp Street and I Street in Wilmington and from 7:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at Pacific Coast Highway and Temescal Canyon Road in Pacific Palisades. Stay safe out there.
Four Firefighters & Patient in Ambulance Involved in Collision
At just past midnight, a Los Angeles Fire Department ambulance carrying four firefighter paramedics and a critical medical patient were involved in a collision with another vehicle at Temescal Canyon Rd. and Pacific Coast Highway. The driver of the other vehicle was airlifted to the hospital in critical or serious condition according to Ron Meyers, LAFD Spokesman.
Hiking the Paseo Miramar
For most of the 5.5-mile Pacific Palisades hike at the popular Paseo Miramar trail towards Parker Overlook, you can see the ocean. Located two blocks east of Pacific Coast Highway on Sunset (map found below), the hike is a popular one, often leaving the dense hillside neighborhood at the top of the street strapped for parking, which means hikers must prepare to walk an extra quarter to half mile uphill through winding streets before it hitting the packed dirt path.
Breaking: Tornado Warning in SoCal and More Weather Woes
Although it's a brief warning, the overall weather picture remains grim here in the greater Los Angeles area. We're under warnings and advisories galore; the flood advisory is still up for Ventura and LA Counties, snow is expected in the "lower elevations of Santa Barbara County as well as the Foothills of the Antelope Valley," the wind advisory is in effect until tomorrow night, and multiple roads in and out of town are closed.
