LAst Night's Action: Lakers Heating Up

Lakers 112, Pacers 96 - The purple and gold have won six of seven and 12 of their last 15 games. Against Indiana, several players had big nights. All five starters hit double-digits in scoring, including 26 from Kobe Bryant, 23 from Andrew Bynum, and 22 from Derek Fisher. The Pacers are 0-9 against the Lakers in Staples Center. more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers Ahead of Pace(rs)

Clippers 104, Pacers 89 - Like some other teams in LA, the Clippers are starting to revolve around one star (cough ... Lakers ... cough ... Galaxy). Unlike other teams, it's just temporary. Sam Cassell had 35 points, as Cuttino Mobley and Ruben Patterson were injured in the first quarter. Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston were already out hurt. What didn't hurt were Chris Kaman's 15 points and 22 rebounds ... Somehow the Clippers are... more ›

Extra, Extra: Jermaine O'Neal Hearts Kobe and Outsourcing Local Journalism

Indiana Pacers star power forward Jermaine O'Neal wants to be traded to the Lakers. Bad. Even Southern California is starting to feel the pinch of congestion and overcrowding. Frustration with a lack of action at the federal level has prompted states to enact a raft of new immigration laws in the first 6 months of 2007 - more than twice the number that was passed during the same period last year. A North Hollywood... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Clippers? Playoffs? Hmmmm.

LAst Night's Action: Clippers? Playoffs? Hmmmm.

Clippers 100, Boston 89 - The Clippers have struggled on the road, so it was nice to play somebody who's even worse on their own court. Before the game, Boston had lost 10 home games in a row and was just 4-18 in the Garden. Los Angeles handed them another loss, which extended an even uglier streak. The Celtics have dropped 14 consecutive games dating back to January 5. Their departure from dynasty has become... more ›

Lakers are 7-4 in High Definition ...but not for long sportsfans!

Lamar: "It's about time that KCAL started broadcasting us in HD." Kobe: "Yeah? It's about time your fuckin knee healed. How 'bout that?" The Lakers are #2 in the Pacific Division with a .643 record and have a .636 record in games broadcast in High Definition. Pretty good, since the games are only broadcast in high def when they play top teams... until now. Starting February 2nd, all Laker away games on KCAL 9... more ›

LAst Night's Action: Happy Anniversary, Kobe

Lakers 108, Warriors 103 - The Lakers kicked off a slow week in local sports (only five pro games in total) by pulling out a win against the Golden State Warriors. Los Angeles had lost two in a row, but hasn't dropped three consecutive games all season. LAist was in attendance and watched the Lakers once again play to the level of their opponent. While the Warriors are better off since a massive eight player... more ›

The Biggest Name in LA Basketball You Don’t Know

The Biggest Name in LA Basketball You Don’t Know

In early December, the Indiana Pacers were in town to face the Los Angeles Lakers. As NBA teams do, they stayed in a posh hotel -- this one in the Bel Air area. But as we Angelenos could have told them, that’s a lot of time in the car (or bus, in this case) if you want to drive out to Staples Center for a morning shoot-around, go back to the hotel for the afternoon, then back to Staples for the game that night. more ›

LAst Night's Action: 2 Lakers, 1 Wave Get Comfy On Bench

Lakers 101, Pacers 87 - The Lakers won their third in a row to stay atop the Pacific Division in a commanding win over Indiana. Kobe Bryant scored 21 but left the game in the third quarter with a sprained ankle. He returned to the bench shortly after going to the locker room. Before the game, coach Phil Jackson benched starting center Andrew Bynum due to questions over his work ethic, though the 19-year-old... more ›

Clippers Spirit

Clippers Spirit

This LAist contributor doesn't normally write about sports so we won't focus much on the game itself. After a 54 point first half, Pacers defense (mostly manifesting in Ron Artest's activity and muscle) and a horrible third quarter left Da Clips 5 points short of their 10th victory. We don't think our soon-to-be-all-star Elton Brand will be getting player of the week honors again after the squad doubled their loss total. That said, their record still smokes the woeful Lakers. Speaking of which, hi Samaki Walker! Did the Staples center victory bring fond memories and hope that you could jump on the coattails of another team and collect one more NBA championship ring? more ›
