Even though the Rose Bowl game isn't for a few days, Oregon Duck lineman Mark Asper has already saved the day in Los Angeles: he saved a man who was choking on a piece of meat at the Lawry's "Beef Bowl" last night.

LAist-CS Week 7 Rankings: Clemson Keeps Winning
It seems like I’ve been talking about Clemson a lot this season. But how can I not talk about them after games like this?
College Football Schedule Week 14: Championships!!!!
And here we are at the end of the 14-week college playoff system also known as the regular season. If Oregon wins the civil war at Corvalis and Auburn wins the SEC Championship Game against South Carolina at the Georgia Dome, they go to Glendale, AZ for the kit-and-kaboodle. If not, then there are some interesting complications. Sitting right behind Auburn and Oregon are TCU and Stanford ready to move their masses to Arizona for that crystal pigskin if those two falter.
LAst Night's Action: Oregon Topples Trojans
Oregon Ducks defeat USC Trojans 53-32. The Trojans made a valiant attempt to stay with the Ducks, but the Ducks’ offense was just too much to overcome as the Trojans fell to No. 1 Oregon 53-32.
LAst Night's Action: Duck, Duck, Coyote
#1 Oregon Ducks defeat UCLA Bruins 60-13. Oregon made sure they didn’t repeat Alabama’s and Ohio State’s mistakes being felled as the top-ranked team of the country. Granted they racked up “only” 582 yards of offense, but they held the Bruins to 290 yards of total offense in their rout of UCLA.
LAist-CS Week 5 Rankings: The Cream of the Crop
In Week 5 of the college football season, we learned there’s the cream of the crop then everyone else much like last season.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get By Suns
LA Lakers defeat Phoenix Suns 102-96. After leading by seven points at the half, the Lakers extended their lead to 15 points. Treating the paint as if it were filled with landmines, the Lakers clanged jump shot after jump shot while Steve Nash then kicked it in full gear for the Suns who went on an 11-2 run to end the third period to bring the game within four. The Suns would eventually take the lead just under three minutes into the fourth quarter, but the Lakers then decided that attacking the paint might be a good idea. After not going to the charity stripe at all in the third quarter, the Lakers were awarded with ten shots at the free throw line. Two of those came via technical fouls when Suns coach Alvin Gentry went crazy when a flagrant foul was not called on Pau Gasol when he fouled Louis Amundson. Kobe Bryant had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds while the Suns Amare Stoudemire led all scorers with 29 points and 16 rebounds. Ron Artest got his shot going getting 15 points while Lamar Odom had four points on 2-for-8 shooting.
LAst Night's Action: Kings Hold On to Beat Sens
LA Kings defeat Ottawa Senators 6-3. It wasn’t a pretty game, but the Kings persevered to beat the Sens. Randy Jones scored the opening goal for the Kings 42 seconds into the game, but the Sens would control most of the game in the first period. But at the end of the period, Wayne Simmonds was tripped on the way to the goal which gave him a penalty shot which he converted for the 2-1 lead. The Kings would go on to take a 3-1 lead early in the second period, but the Senators rallied back to tie the game at 3-3. Scoring chances at the end of the game inflated the score for the Kings, but a win is a win especially when you’re not playing your best.
LAist-CS: Pac-10 Here to Save the Day
Every college football fan in the Best Coast in America has heard the same thing over and over again: the Pac-10 is not real football. During the baseball season, Orlando Hudson and Juan Pierre echoed that sentiment very loudly one Saturday in the Dodger clubhouse during an LSU-Georgia game.
LAist-CS: Pac-10 Up in the Air
Yesterday Ohio State printed their ticket to the Rose Bowl with their 27-24 win in overtime over Iowa, but who will they be facing? That is a question that no one has had to ask in the last four years.
LAist-CS: Ducks Sit on Trojans' Face
Let me channel my inner Vic the Brick. "Trojan fans! One word: UY!"
In a Saturday where all of the excitement was contained to the margins (Southern Miss-Houston; Miami (FL)-Wake Forest; Cal-Arizona State; Rutgers-UConn), all eyes were on USC and Oregon. And in the spotlight, the Trojan defense withered.
USC Battles the Ducks
Saturday is big. It’s really big. Everyone seems to know it. ESPN’s College GameDay is going to be there. Oregon’s newest bastardized uniform creation (carbon fiber helmets and “steel” pants) will be there. A capacity crowd at Autzen Stadium will be there.
