Consider it the "Little Restaurant that Could" in the heart of Hollywood: It's been well over a year since we first started prematurely salivating about a storefront near Sunset and Vine. With the weekly taunting of the abundant, crowded, and colorful Hollywood Farmers' Market not helping matters, the cheerful yellow eatery whose name evokes the core connection between the farm and the dining table, has been "coming soon" for a long, long time.

Last night was the opening for Camille Rose Garcia's "The Hydra of Babylon" exhibit at the Merry Karnowsky Gallery. Californian artist Garcia’s latest paintings on wood and paper explore the converging ecological and human catastrophes and the healing power of nature. The largest work is the show's namesake and centerpiece, "The Hydra of Babylon" is described as follows:

[The painting] depicts a Greek hydra, a nine-headed serpent, struggles underwater with a giant white eagle. The eagle is depicted upside down, representing a “flipping” of its meaning as a symbol of freedom. Babylon, usually used symbolically to represent wealth, luxury, and wickedness, is used here also as a geographical reference. The original city of Babylon, with beautiful azure-blue gates and famous hanging gardens, sits in modern-day Iraq, now a war-torn desert.
Garcia hails originally from the OC, has an MFA from UC Davis, and now lives in Northern California. Her show at Merry Karnowsky Gallery runs until October 10th.

We were excited when Chicago-based Intelligentsia invaded the Eastside, now Westsiders can grab one hell of a fine cuppa closer to home thanks to their brand new and eagerly anticipated Venice digs. Last night they got things started with a heavily-attended opening fete, where the crowd ate, drank, and were very, very merry in honor of the new coffee mecca. We found this video online from the festivities so you can see what you missed last night. Just don't miss out on their killer espresso and brewed coffee drinks and beans. Be smart: Get thee to Intelligentsia!
