Tonight In Rock: The Roots, The Glitch Mob, The Deadly Syndrome, Cotton Jones

Tonight Philadelphia-based Grammy Award-winning hip hop band the Roots and Long Island-bred hip hop act De La Soul will be performing at the Hollywood Palladium with none other than Common, Ludacris and Nas. LA-based DJ collective the Glitch Mob (LAist Review), among many other electronic acts, are poised to take on the 15th annual Nocturnal Festival at the NOS Events Center in good ole San Bernadino. And, lastly, local indie rockers the Deadly Syndrome (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4) will be headlining the El Rey Theatre for this year's Tarfest. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch the phoenix that rose from the ashes of Page France, Maryland-based indie folk act Cotton Jones. Oliver Future are slated to kick things off.

Tonight In Rock: A Camp, Castledoor, Oliver Future, Charlie Wadhams

Tonight Swedish alternative rock act A Camp, a solo side project of the Cardigans' vocalist Nina Persson, will be headlining the Troubadour. LA-based indie rockers Oliver Future are poised to take on the second night of their month-long residency at the Echo with experimental pop chanteuse Gliss in tow. And, lastly, local singer-songwriter Charlie Wadhams will be performing at the Silver Lake Lounge. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland, of course, to catch LAist favorites Castledoor (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6) continue their month-long residency. Long Beach's own pop songstress (and general lass) Jessica Dobson will be kicking things off under the pseudonym Deep Sea Diver (LAist Review).

Tonight In Rock: Metric, Castledoor, Oliver Future, Jubilee Singers

Tonight Canadian indie rockers Metric (LAist Interview) will be headlining the Wiltern with former Death From Above 1979 drummer/vocalist Sebastien Grainger. Pasadena-based experimental indie pop outfit Jubilee Singers are poised to grace the Silver Lake Lounge. And, lastly, Oliver Future will be taking on yet another night of their Monday night residency with none other than Other Lives and Band of Skulls in tow. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch LA-based indie pop act Castledoor (LAist Review, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6), who will be continuing their month-long residency as well.

Tonight In Rock: Jon Brion, The Bad Plus, Robert Francis, Oliver Future

Tonight local producer/multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Jon Brion (LAist Review) will be jamming with friends at Largo at the Coronet. LA-bred singer-songwriter Robert Francis (LAist Interview) is poised to perform at Home Restaurant. Although we recommend going merely for the images, the second night of Exposure, a local photography exhibition which takes place at Meet Mix Mogul, boasts performances by One Trick Pony, the Voyeurs (LAist Interview) and the Monolators (LAist Review, #2). And, lastly, LA-by-way-of-Austin indie rockers Oliver Future will be gracing Spaceland. But we strongly suggest heading over to the Mint to catch avant-garde jazz trio the Bad Plus. They will be joined by vocalist Wendy Lewis to perform songs from their forthcoming disc of covers, 2009's For All I Care.

Tonight In Rock: NOFX, Fucked Up, The Bird and the Bee, Jon Brion

Tonight Bay Area punk rockers NOFX will be concluding a two-date stint at the Henry Fonda Music Box. Toronto's own raucous punk outfit Fucked Up are slated to headline the Echoplex with LA locals Mika Miko. LA-based indie rockers Oliver Future will be gracing Spaceland. And, lastly, English rapper Lady Sovereign is poised to flow at the Echo. But we insist that you head over to the Museum of Natural History to catch the second edition of First Fridays. Acclaimed indie-pop duo the Bird and the Bee will be accompanied by D.C.-bred indie rockers Jukebox the Ghost.

Last weekend, the 10th Annual Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival took place in San Pedro. Last year's festival featured performances by notable local indie artists Eagle and Talon (MySpace), Great Northern (MySpace), and Bodies of Water (MySpace), and this year's lineup was no different with The Henry Clay People (MySpace), Craft Club (MySpace), Oliver Future (MySpace), Rocket (MySpace), Robert Francis (MySpace), The Weather Underground (MySpace), and The Monolators (MySpace) filling out the majority of the three-day roster.

Stoking the flames of independence, KCRW released its latest compilation album from live Morning Becomes Eclectic performances cut from twelve different in-studio acts. Crowd pleasers like The Shins and The Swell Season imbibe the album with not so new takes on their even older songs while Spoon and Indie Brits, The Orange Lights dig deep into their live repertoire to deliver interesting versions of their already strong songs.

Today: The Henry Clay People, Gram Rabbit.

Last month, local band Radars to the Sky (MySpace) had a month-long residency at The Echo (MySpace).

If you're looking for something free and chill, then catch old school acoustic jazz at Crane's Hollywood Tavern or ride the tram uphill for reggae at The Getty. For jazz of a crazier brand (yet still classic), try the Art Ensemble of Chicago at REDCAT. Speaking of Chitown, three hip-hop artist from there will be at Echoplex. Hip-hop of a different brand can be found at the weirdest space in LA, pehrspace. And for some rock that's just good, check Spaceland and Safari Sam's.

Everyone loves an outlaw and David Allen Coe is as bad as they get. Practically born in prison, Coe has been slinging around racial epithets and dirty songs before it became trendy. And thanks to Red Peters and the fact that he can't be fined, Howard Stern has been playing one of Coe's classics "Fuckin in the Butt". Beneficiary of an opening spot from a recent Kid Rock tour, DAC is showing a new...
