LA Kings defeat Vancouver Canucks 2-1 (OT). After losing the last two regular season games to the San Jose Sharks by choking two-goal leads in the third period, there didn't seem to be much hope for this team. It seemed as if the fire went out as soon as they clinched a playoff berth despite having the chance of being the 3-seed. And that's almost never a good omen for a playoff bound team. But after storming out of the gate winning the first two games in Vancouver, anything could happen.

LAst Night's Action: Kendrys Big Bang Lifts the Angels
LA Angels defeat Oakland Athletics 6-0. With the Angels returning home a bit battered and bruised with a 3-6 record, they needed something to lift some spirits. Enter Kendrys Morales.
LAst Night's Action: Kings Outplay Canucks in Vancouver
LA Kings defeat Vancouver Canucks 4-2. It’s not a playoff series until the home team loses. Well it’s officially a series. Dustin Penner - yes, that Dustin Penner - scored the winning goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation while Dustin Brown bagged the empty-netter to ice the game. Mike Richards and Willie Mitchell also scored power-play goals.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Get Thundered
Oklahoma City Thunder defeat LA Lakers 100-85. The final NBA game before the All Star break saw the Lakers unable to withstand another poor shooting performance by Kobe Bryant on the road. While Derek Fisher’s 15 points in Dallas Wednesday night helped bail the Lakers out, no such luck against the best team in the Western Conference.
Clippers and Blake Griffin Explode All Over the Thunder
Brent Barry of NBA TV called it their signature win of the season, even more than their overtime win over the Miami Heat. The Clippers indeed put on a spectacular performance in their 112-100 thrashing over the Oklahoma City Thunder, owners of the best record in the NBA.
LAst Night's Action: Kobe Triple-Doubles the Kings
LA Lakers defeat Sacramento Kings 112-100. The Kings were resilient, and the Lakers were on the second game of a back-to-back. But in the end the Kings couldn’t overcome Kobe Bryant’s 17th career triple-double.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Thunder On to the Second Round
LA Lakers defeat Oklahoma City Thunder 95-94. With five minutes left in the game the Lakers held a 91-84 lead. In a matter of two minutes they pissed away the lead and then some. With 2:11 remaining Kobe Bryant hit a jumper to bring the Lakers to within 94-93. And for the next two minutes both teams traded jumpers and bad shots seemingly not wanting to win the game. After Russell Westbrook missed a jumper with 19 seconds left in the game, Kobe Bryant got the rebound and dribbled down the court as everyone in the...
You Worried About the Lakers?
I am going to take full credit for the Lakers 111-87 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of their first round playoff series Tuesday night. Until this game I really haven’t been paying attention to the Lakers since they don’t allow us at LAist press access and the Kings who do were making a playoff drive of their own. But with the Kings’ season over as of Sunday, it was time to refocus my attention on the Purple and Gold.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Silence Thunder
LA Lakers defeat Oklahoma City Thunder 111-87. Let them eat tacos! This was the Lakers’ team that everybody was expecting for the last two months. After the embarrassment on Saturday night in Oklahoma City, the Lakers made the Thunder pay in Game 5 at the Staples Center. Kobe Bryant wound up guarding...
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Squeak By Thunder for Game 2 Victory
LA Lakers defeat Oklahoma City Thunder 95-92. In Game 1, the Lakers had a first quarter lead to help buffer the swoon. The Lakers had no such luxury in Game 2 playing a back and forth affair that thanks to a Jeff Green missed three pointer...
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Regain Form in Playoff Win Against Thunder
LA Lakers defeat Oklahoma City Thunder 87-79. The Lakers responded to all critics and shut down NBA regular season scoring champion Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder. With Ron Artest harassing Durant all game long Durant did score 24 however he did have 24 shot attempts - not a good ratio. While Russell Westbrook tried to pick up some slack with 23 points helping the Thunder cut into the Lakers lead in the third quarter. But no one else on the Thunder responded, and the Lakers just did their thing. With Andrew Bynum and Kobe Bryant back in the lineup, it was like the last six weeks didn’t happen. Bynum had 13 points and 12 rebounds while Pau Gasol also had a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Kobe led the Lakers with 21 points.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Shelled by Thunder
Oklahoma City Thunder defeat LA Lakers 91-75. This game was as lopsided as an ugly baby’s head. Coming off of a strong defensive effort in the fourth quarter against the Spurs Wednesday night, the Lakers did nothing to stop the Thunder. The Thunder got anything they wanted - points in the paint and open look jumpers - while harassing the Lakers in the paint. In fact the Lakers did absolutely nothing on offense not breaking the 50-point...
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Continue to Struggle against Bobcats
Charlotte Bobcats defeat LA Lakers 98-83. Right after the Lakers overtime loss in Miami I tweeted that the Lakers would also lose this game in Charlotte, and they did not disappoint. After trailing the Bobcats by six going into the half, the Lakers came out in the third quarter playing their worst basketball in years. Three turnovers, two misses and blocked twice, the Lakers did not get a field goal until Derek Fisher knocked in a three 4:27.
LAst Night's Action: Donovan, Galaxy Fall in Penalty Kicks
Real Salt Lake defeats LA Galaxy 1-1, 5-4 PK. 120 minutes couldn’t decide who would win the MLS Cup, so they went to penalty kicks. In penalties Galaxy captain Landon Donovan waited to kick in the fourth round. He inexplicably missed the shot way over the crossbar. While Josh Saunders was able to save Andy Williams’ kick in the fifth round, if Donovan had made his kick the Galaxy would have been crowned. The Galaxy owned Salt Lake in the first half culminating in Mike Magee’s goal in the 41st minute assisted by Donovan and David Beckham. Salt Lake took over in the second half with a score in the 64th minute by former Galaxy player Robbie Findley. The game was noted for injuries with Salt Lake’s Javier Morales leaving the game after a hit by Beckham and Will Johnson leaving after one half from food poisoning. Galaxy keeper Donovan Ricketts left in the 66th minute after a collision becoming the first keeper to leave the MLS Cup final.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Stymied by Rockets, Lose Second Straight
Houston Rockets defeat LA Lakers 101-91. Rockets guard Aaron Brook blistered the Lakers for a career high 33 points as the Rockets ran circles around the Lakers and their sloppy offense. Ron Artest led the Lakers with 22 points while Andrew Bynum scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Kobe Bryant had a human game with 18 points. The Rockets, despite their tallest player barely clearing Prince sans platforms, out-rebounded the Lakers 60-38. That will do you in.
LAst Night's Action: Dodgers Win, Kershaw Strikes Out 13
LA Dodgers defeat San Francisco Giants 5-4. Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw had the best outing of his young career going seven innings giving up only one run on one hit (a homer by catcher Bengie Molina) on one walk with 13 strikeouts. His 13 Ks were the most by a Dodger lefty since Fernando Valenzuela in 1987. As fabulous as Kershaw was, that's how bad the bullpen and offense was denying him the win. The Dodgers got three walks and two singles in the first inning yet only plated one run. In fact they stranded five runners on base in the first two innings. In the eighth inning, Hong-Chih Kuo and Ronald Belisario combined to give up three runs in relief to give the Giants their first lead of the series. But the Dodgers fight back culminating in James Loney's walk-off walk in the bottom of the ninth. A great win, but still very disappointing for Kershaw not to get the decision despite his great performance.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Drown Thunder
LA Lakers defeat Oklahoma City Thunder 107-93. The Thunder tried making a comeback in the fourth quarter, but it took Kobe Bryant only three minutes to score 10 points to squash that hope. With the 36 points he scored, Bryant eclipsed Adrian Dantley for 19th all time scorer. The Lakers continue to have the best record in the NBA at 47-10 and the best road record at 21-6.
LAst Night's Action: Wednesday Night Just Like Tuesday
LA Lakers defeat Golden State Warriors 129-121. The Lakers had to work hard in this second game of a back-to-back. The trailed by as much as 12 points in the third quarter. But they shook off the doldrums and took control of the game at the end of the quarter. The Warriors didn't give up, but the trio of Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol was just too much for them. Both teams had six players that scored in double digits. The Lakers with a 44-10 record have the third best record after 54 games in franchise history. In the other two seasons, 1971-1972 and 1987-1988, they won the NBA title.
LAst Night's Action: Lakers Skirt by Knickerbockers
LA Lakers defeat New York Knicks 116-114. The Lakers are a very infuriating team. They had moments of great defensive stops which led me to believe they play defense only when they want to. They also missed a lot of shots right under their basket by being tentative and trying to lay it in rather than dunking authoritatively. This against a team that has no big man! Even though the Lakers are now 21-3, why does it seem so unfulfilling?
