More details are coming out about the unfortunate murder in Mid-City last night in which a woman was murdered by her estranged boyfriend. According to an LAPD statement, 30-year-old Flor Medrano flagged down officers on patrol yesterday evening after she was threatened and assaulted the day before.

LAPD Gives Woman Ride Home Where She is Stabbed, Killed

In an unusual and unfortuante story, a woman who arrived at police station around midnight to file a domestic violence report died soon after officers gave her a ride home, says the LA Times. After dropping her off at her apartment, near Pico and Cochran in Mid-City, officers stayed outside filling out a crime report inside their patrol car. At the same time, the woman was attacked by the man inside the apartment. Screams were heard and someone ran outside to inform police of the attack. Once inside, officers found the man stabbing the woman and shot him. Both were taken to the hospital where they died. Update: The Times follows up, exploring "how woman under police protection was slain with officers nearby."

Report Released on Fatal Pasadena Police Shooting

It was February 19th when 38-year-old Pasadena resident Leroy Barnes was sitting in the passenger seat of a car that was pulled over. As officers approached the car, Barnes put his hands into his backpack, which led to a series of events ending in his death, after 11 bullets, seven in his back, reports the Pasadena Star News.

Officer Shoots, Kills Man in West LA

If you were wondering why helicopters hovered above West LA for hours last night, they were assisting police on the ground after a man was shot and killed by an officer. The incident happened around 11:40 p.m. on the 13000 block of Iowa Avenue. Few details are available on what led up to the shooting.

Long Beach: Officer Involved Shootings Leave 5 Injured

Not a good day for use of force reports in Long Beach. In two separate incidents, Long Beach police used their guns injuring four suspects with one officer also being shot. In the first incident, Long Beach undercover detectives witnessed a drive by shooting in Compton and pursued the vehicle onto the 710 freeway. It ended in a shootout: three suspects hit and one officer. Later, an officer responding to a vandalism call led to the suspect being shot when he tried to grab the officer's baton.

Pasadena Police Release Report on Death of Leroy Jones

Pasadena police have released the "blue book" report on the controversial officer involved shooting of parolee Leroy Jones earlier this year. Jones was killed in the back of his car with 11 bullets, seven of them in his back after two officers pulled him over and a struggle with a gun ensued, according to the Pasadena Star News. The report clears the officers saying the shooting was warranted. But Jones' family and civil rights leaders are disappointed in the report, citing the police still haven't released the video of the incident caught on the patrol car's dashboard camera and the police haven't addressed the contradicting statements made by the department after the incident. But taking it a step further, Pasadena's chief of police said that "in view of the concerns expressed by some in our community regarding the need for an independent review of this matter and in the interest of continuing to demonstrate full transparency, I have asked the Los Angeles County Office of Independent Review to take this matter under consideration."

11 Shots Fired, Man Dies: Pasadena Police Try to Explain Their Side

Last Thursday afternoon, Leroy Barnes, 38, was apparently driving on the wrong side of the road when Pasadena officers pulled him over. They originally said Barnes, a long time criminal, shot at them--they returned fire killing him. Now they say that story is wrong.

A 21-year-old shot and killed by police during a Sunday shootout at a Chino Papa John's Pizza was identified as a bystander and not a suspect as originally thought. The announcement came yesterday afternoon after going over witness and officer statements. When police arrived the two 28-year-old robbers, Edward Cisneros of La Mirada and Joel Anthony Jaquez of Hacienda Heights, allegedly opened fire hitting one of the officers. Both suspects and the officer are in the hospital. Daniel Baledran, 21, of Rubidoux was nearby when police took him for one of the suspects.

Not that an 18-year-old male suspect who allegedly tried to rob two on-duty undercover officers in South LA last night should have known that they were cops. But really, crime can be a lottery. "The two officers each fired multiple rounds striking the suspect. The officers were not injured," an LAPD statement reads. "The suspect was transported by ambulance to the California Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery for multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. His condition is described as serious but stable." An internal division will conduct an investigation into the use of force by the officers.

The Inglewood Police are keeping silent about their city council's revelation yesterday that an August 31 incident involving officers fatally shooting a homeless man was recorded on tape and in the hands of the City. According to cbs2.com, the council released a written statement regarding the video, which allegedly shows "seven officers [who] fired a combined 47 times" at "a homeless man carrying a toy gun."

Since May, officer involved shootings in Inglewood have left four people dead. The latest was Sunday afternoon when police were called to a report of a homeless man with a gun, which ended up being a replica silver handgun, according to the LA Times.

Details have finally been pieced together after yesterdays officer involved shooting at Sunset and Vermont yesterday after a robbery at a LG Electronics store. When police arrived, a foot chase ensued leading to an officer, who was "slashed in the head with a knife" by one of the robbery suspects, shooting off two rounds. One hit the suspect injuring him and another hit the windshield of a route 240 Metro Bus.

Update, 2:40 p.m.: According to Officer Diaz per KNX1070, the suspect hit one of the officers twice in the head with the butt of a knife. The other officer fired a couple shots with one apparently entering a Metro bus slightly injuring one passenger. The other shot hit suspect who was brought to hospital in stable condition. This was at the Southeast corner of Sunset and Vermont.

Both the LAPD and the LA Fire Department are reporting incidents in the vicinity of Sunset and Vermont Boulevards, but both cannot confirm if they are related at this early stage.

The LAPD is calling this an 'Accidental Discharge," which could be taken to a whole new level when out of context. Well, anyway...

Yesterday morning, it was Encino. Last night, it was Santa Ana when a man who was told by police to leave an area got involved in a struggle with officers. He tried to grab a gun from one officer's holster when the another officer shot him dead, according to police. Several officers had minor injuries.

On Wednesday after midnight an off-duty LAPD officer was shot by Long Beach Police after calls came in that a man was wandering down a street with a gun. Sources within the department told the Press-Telegram that friends of shot officer told LBPD he had been drinking heavily before he wandered off. The paper also says unamed officers described the gun as either a "large shotgun or a pellet gun with a light on the end of it." They also said that the shooting happened within a matter of seconds of the officer's arrival with no explanation of what exactly prompted officers to shoot.

An off-duty LAPD Officer was shot early this morning around 12:30 a.m. by Long Beach Police responding to a "person with a gun" call. Few details about what led officers to shoot have come out so far as Long Beach officials are only saying that when officers contacted the suspect, the shooting occurred.

One innocent person dead at the hands of an officer is bad enough. Now there could be two. 5-year veteran of the Inglewood Police Department Brian Ragan is on leave for the second time in 10 weeks after he shot and killed a man who allegedly was pointing a gun at him. Ragan was responding to a family disturbance call, knocked on the door and, according to police, Kevin Wicks, a postal worker was holding a gun and pointed it at officers after he answered the door. By all accounts, neighbors say Wicks was a "quiet tenant" and that officers did not clearly identify themselves. Residents are now calling for a federal probe.

Around 6:00 a.m., two suspects who earlier robbed a restaurant in Beverly Hills were pulled over at South Fairfaix, San Vicente and Olympic boulevards, prompting an officer involved shooting.

A narcotics officer was shot and injured today when a suspect he was serving with a warrant fired shots at him and his partner just after 3 p.m. today in Boyle Heights. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Saturday night's officer involved shooting that led to the death of Roketi Mosesue, 46, has led to much controversy. Both sides tell their story. First, the Long Beach Police via the Mercury News:

Early Tuesday morning, California Highway Patrol officers made a routine traffic stop that ended with deadly results. Around 12:15 a.m., officers stopped a gold Mercedes near 7th Street at South Westmoreland when the driver exited the vehicle per instructions given. But as the man got out, he allegedly produced a hand gun, prompting officers to shoot him more than once "in self defense," ultimately killing him.

A man who tried to get away from Transit Sheriff's Deputies on a Metrolink Train yesterday was shot at, but not hit. Police were checking fares in Norwalk when one man split after the train doors opened.

The first quarter results are in for officer involved shootings and the survey says there have been 15 such incidents, 12 of them killing suspects (this number was the same in 2006). Of the 12 deaths, 10 guns were recovered on the suspects. Last year during the same reporting period, there were 18 officer involved shootings leading to 6 deaths.

LAPD Officers checking the welfare of a man on the street shot and killed him after he allegedly lunged at them with a knife. While on patrol around 4 a.m., officers spotted a man lying on the ground in an alcove and stopped to check on his well-being.

In the year's 9th officer involved shooting (OIS), a resident was shot at the Fair Oaks Manor, a residential treatment center in Highland Park for adults with mental and developmental disabilities. Before the LAPD arrived, staff members called 911 around 2 AM Sunday morning and reported 24-year-old Francisco Mondragon was threatening others with a screwdriver. Police officer Ivan McMillan, 29, and his partner, confronted Mondragon as he stood on the porch of the board...
