Last Saturday SeaWorld's hotline was ringing off the hook with the news that a sea lion had been shot.
Rescuers found a sea lion on a beach in Oceanside—that they named Valentine because of the the upcoming holiday—who was dehydrated, malnourished and with a gunshot wound.
Police Chief's Wife Charged for Firing Gun at Cypress Cops
The long arm of the law doesn't care who your spouse is, as Oceanside's Brinda Sue McCoy is learning. The wife of the Oceanside Police Chief "has been charged with five felonies in Orange County for allegedly firing a semiautomatic firearm at police officers in Cypress," reports LA Now. The incident took place on December 16th at the McCoy residence in Cypress.

Passengers Still Missing After Plane Crash Off SoCal Coast
A small plane was reported as being seen hitting the water yesterday approximately 25 miles off the coast between Oceanside and San Clemente Island, according to abc7.com. The Coast Guard says as of this morning, "rescue boats have yet to find survivors or bodies." Three rescue boats and a helicopter were in use early this morning as part of the search for survivors. "Federal Aviation Administration officials believe the plane took off from San Diego's Montgomery Field," but no confirmation has been made about the aircraft, its origin, destination, or passengers.

Throughout the morning, the phones at the LA Fire Department dispatch center have been ringing off the hook, prompting officials to release an LAFD Alert: "Smoke from the current wildfire in Camp Pendleton is now notable in many parts of Los Angeles," Brian Humphrey wrote. Over the phone with LAist, he did emphasize that if you do actually see smoke, it might be worth a call. The fire, which has burned 1000 acres on the marine base is 70% contained, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

On Monday, California Highway Patrol officers announced that several students at El Camino High in Oceanside had died over the weekend because of drunk-driver incidents. In fact, so many fell victim, 26 in all, some students thought there might have been a gang shooting. Tears, screams and all the emotions were heard throughout classrooms.
