One man was killed after a hit-and-run crash on the 605 freeway at about 5:30 this morning. City News Service reports that the crash, which involved multiple vehicles including a taxi, happened on the northbound side of the freeway just south of Imperial Highway. The victim, who is in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A description of the hit-and-run vehicle hasn't been released, nor has the man's name.

Man Shot and Killed For Not Giving Up His Medical Marijuana During Mobile Home Invasion Robbery
Sheriff's Homicide Bureau detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in Norwalk that appears to be a home invasion robbery centered on marijuana. Authorities were dispatched to the 11100 block of Imperial Highway at 5:38 p.m. Monday, explains a release issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. On scene, a 55-year-old Hispanic male who had been shot by an intruder, and his stepson, Ernesto Gutierrez, who witnessed the shooting.
Around 34,000 Without Power in L.A. and Surrounding Region
Beyond the 11,000 or so affected LADWP customers in the city of Los Angeles, Southern California Edison is reporting that close to 23,000 of their customers are without power. The hardest hit area was Whittier with 2,366 outages, followed by Carson and Long Beach with 1,709 and 1,292 outages, respectively.
The utility said demand for energy hit its record peak usage for the year.
Suspect Arrested in Shooting of 7-Year-Old Bicycle-Riding Boy
The suspect who apparently fired a gun during an argument Wednesday evening, wounding a young boy in a nearby park in Norwalk, has been arrested, the L.A. Sheriff's Department announced. At about 11 a.m. on Thursday, 21-year-old Charles German Vera was arrested during a surveillance when he was driving with his mother on the 5 Freeway.
7-Year-Old Shot by Stray Bullet in a Norwalk Park
A young boy riding a bicycle with his father in a Norwalk park was shot in the torso Wednesday evening. An argument between two men outside the Holifield Park ended in up to three gunshots, missing the intended target, according to ABC7. The 7-year-old boy is expected to recover follower a surgery.

For registered voters who are unable to make it to their polling place on June 8th to cast their ballot in the Statewide Direct Primary Election in-person voting is available in Norwalk, with hours that include this and next weekend.

Planning to vote in the June 8th primary? If so, today is the last day to register to vote, but in order to do so, you have to physically drop off your application in at the county's Registrar-Recorder headquarters in Norwalk. "Registration forms and a deposit box for completed forms will be available in the front lobby," noted the department in an e-mail. 7-Year-Old Boy Credited With Foiling Robbery With 911 Call
A 7-year-old boy is being applauded for his bravery after his 911 call helped stop a robbery in progress inside his family's Norwalk home, according to the Press-Telegram.
When three armed men entered the house yesterday morning via the unlocked front door, the child, whose name is being withheld for his safety, and his 6-year-old sister, locked themselves in the bathroom to hide.
Another Police Car Chase with Teens & Children
If last week's deaths of three kids (one of them was at the wheel) in a police pursuit wasn't enough, five were involved in one last night that began in Norwalk. Shortly before midnight, police tried to pull over a red Chevy Corsica that was reported to be stolen when the 13 or 14-year-old driver sped off with four other passengers aged 12 to 14. About an hour later, California Highway Patrol performed the PIT maneuver causing the car to crash into the fence. No one was injured and the teens were all taken into custody.
Early Voting Lines Saturday
People came out in droves to vote early over the weekend at the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder's office in Norwalk. The line on Saturday just before polls opened at 8 a.m. wrapped around the voting tents, down the sidewalk, along the length of the office building before turning the corner.

Metro Red Line to Burbank Airport

Morning headlines today have not been an exemplary one for public safety, both accident and crime-wise. The big ticket item was the eastbound 10 Freeway being closed in Covina after a 4:45 a.m. accident between a van and motorcycle that left the two-wheeler dead. All lanes were closed and one was reported open at 7 a.m. Also in Norwalk, a five-car crash caused three soundbound lanes on the 605 to be closed shortly before 8 a.m. There were several injuries, but none warranting transport to the hospital.
