Tonight In Rock: NIN, NOFX, The Germs, The Henry Clay People

Tonight Cleveland-bred industrial rockers NIN will be performing at the Echoplex with LA-based noise-infused rock act HEALTH. Prolific Bay Area punk rockers NOFX will be performing at Club Nokia with a slew of other prominent acts for the Vans Warped Tour 15th Anniversary Celebration. LA-based punk outfit the Germs are poised to headline the House of Blues Anaheim with none other than English punk band UK Subs in tow. And, lastly, Echo Park's own female rocker Queen Kwong will be gracing Silver Factory Studios. But we strongly suggest heading over to Tony’s Bar in Downtown to catch LAist favorites the Henry Clay People (Review, #2, #3, #4), who will be performing for this weekend's edition of Little Radio Summercamp. Local indie rockers the Monolators (LAist Review, #2) are slated to kick things off.

When Did Punk Rock Become So Safe?

After twenty-five years of punk rock, PCP and hippie bashing, Fat Mike and the boys of LA-born NOFX haven't stopped their fight to uphold the tenets of the punk ethos. Having played three shows at the Henry Fonda last week, the band highlighted songs from every era of their history, never once failing to entertain the crowd with their signature hilarious, immature and oftentimes bigoted banter.

"Dude, are those earplugs?! What kind of pussy are you?" mocked Fat Mike of NOFX from atop the stage at the Henry Fonda Theater last Thursday. "Holy shit and they're orange!" an observation that probably made the unfortunate soul in the front row blush to the roots of his mohawk. This weekend was NOFX's triumphant 25 plus year reunion gigs. What was once a fringe band on the Los Angeles punk scene have emerged as legends of their time. Mostly because they've lasted for so long, a theme that was rehashed frequently over the course of the night. "Is there anyone here under 21? Because you can get the fuck out! Leave! You don't belong here! Punk rock is not for kids" Mike grinned. "I am 42 years old and I am the youngest dude on this stage. I've done the math and there is a combined 650 years of punk rock on this stage right now."

Tonight In Rock: Ne-Yo, NOFX, TSOL, Alex & Sam

Tonight the Grammys, "a broken system of old white men voting for music they’ve never heard or understood," will be taking place in Downtown at the Staples Center. LA-based pop singer-songwriter/producer extraordinaire Ne-Yo is poised to perform the second sold-out night of his two-date stint at Club Nokia. Prolific Bay Area punk rockers NOFX will be concluding a non-consecutive three-date stint at the Henry Fonda Music Box. And speaking of punk rock outfits, Long Beach's own TSOL are slated to annihilate onlookers at the Echoplex. But we strongly suggest heading over to Home Restaurant in Silverlake to catch jazz-infused pop duo Alex & Sam (LAist Interview, Review).

Tonight In Rock: NOFX, Fucked Up, The Bird and the Bee, Jon Brion

Tonight Bay Area punk rockers NOFX will be concluding a two-date stint at the Henry Fonda Music Box. Toronto's own raucous punk outfit Fucked Up are slated to headline the Echoplex with LA locals Mika Miko. LA-based indie rockers Oliver Future will be gracing Spaceland. And, lastly, English rapper Lady Sovereign is poised to flow at the Echo. But we insist that you head over to the Museum of Natural History to catch the second edition of First Fridays. Acclaimed indie-pop duo the Bird and the Bee will be accompanied by D.C.-bred indie rockers Jukebox the Ghost.

Tonight In Rock: NOFX, Merle Haggard, Gillian Welch, Circa Survive

Tonight legendary country singer-songwriter Merle Haggard will be performing at the Grove of Anaheim. Prolific punk rockers NOFX are slated to headline a sold-out show at the Henry Fonda Music Box. Bluegrass troubadours Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings will be jamming together at Largo at the Coronet. OC-based pop punk outfit Circa Survive are poised to play to a sold-out crowd at the Troubadour. Echo Park's own indie rockers Iglu & Hartly will be coming through the Viper Room. And, lastly, D.C.-bred indie rockers Jukebox the Ghost will be joined by the Voyeurs at Three Clubs in Hollyweird. But we strongly suggest that you head over to the Hotel Café to catch local experimental instrumental duo El Ten Eleven.
