What's the only thing cooler than a coffee table shaped like an OG Nintendo controller? One that actually works, duh.
The Boho Workbench in Venice designed a table that you can put your drinks on or use to play Nintendo (or both!)

Epic Win! Nintendo Gives Kirby i am 8-bit Makeover
The demo room at Nintendo's Redwood City offices got a charmingly patchwork makeover by Los Angeles video game artists i am 8-bit last week. Decorated in cloth and burlap, felt and buttons, iconic mushrooms and, of course, yarn, the anticipated Kirby's Epic Yarn for Wii was on display with gush-worthy cuteness, pleasing musical tinklings, shape-shifting transformations, and all the precision textiles of Patch Land you can expect on Oct. 17 when the game is released.
Gamer Nerds Unite: Some Photos from E3
Here's a little of what we saw this afternoon at E3, otherwise known as the Electronic Entertainment Expo, where new video games and technologies are being shown off. Yesterday, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr helped introduce 45 Beatles songs to Rock Band.
Beatles Rock Band at E3: More Than Your Average LA Star Sighting
So far E3, which is happening this week in town, has been filled with celebrities who love video games. At the EA press conference Pete Sampras played Grand Slam Tennis. At Ubisoft James Cameron described Avatar in detail and Pele shared his love for football and Academy of Champions. Joel McHale hosted the Ubisoft press conference revealing several times which games he was most looking forward to playing (Splinter Cell Conviction) and saluting the 'geeks' at The Los Angeles Theater.
Photo Essay: The Collection of Michael Jackson
Earlier this week Michael Jackson and auctioneer Julien's reached an agreement to give all of the 1,400 items that were to be auctioned this week back to the King of Pop. While this agreement may have ruined your chances of owning the singer's bubble hockey game, gold throne, espresso machine or life-sized Darth Vader made out of Legos, it did not, however, put a stop to the public viewing exhibition taking place at the old Robinsons-May in Beverly Hills located next door to the Beverly Hilton.
Nintendo DSi Launch Event, Universal City, 4/4/09
With two cameras, a highly entertaining photo editing feature, an online game store, and a music player, Nintendo lovers have been waiting with baited breath for the latest installment of one of the world’s most popular handheld gaming consoles. Last weekend LAist was invited to Nintendo’s official launch party, where hundreds lined up at the GameStop at the Universal City Walk to be among the first to get their hands on the new DSi.
Wii Fit Ultimate Playdate at the W Hotel
Willie Nelson is in great shape for a man in his 70's. How does he do it? In the new issue of Rolling Stone Willie Nelson says, "I've heard that lots of senior-citizens are getting Wiis, because it really does work." Willie plays Wii on his tour bus with his teenage sons. He adds, "You know most 75 year olds already decided to hang it up a long time ago. I would never be in that mind-set because I enjoy what I am doing."
E3 2008 Roundup
what with all the booth babes and swag bags and throngs of gamers huddled outside the LA Convention Center chomping at the bit for a taste of the next Soul Calibur or Resident Evil or Final Fantasy. But that isn’t to say that the entire industry is at a loss for its bespectacled past. In fact, the reinvented, invite-only E3 (as of 2007) and the creation of E for All (which welcomes the public) is highly indicative of the scope of the gaming world. So its hard to argue that the industry is more popular now than it ever was. That being said, read on to find out the highlights of this year’s E3.
New Wii Fun Centers at Childrens Hospital
Last Wednesday, LAist headed over to Childrens Hospital to see the presentation of new Nintendo and Starlight Fun Centers featuring Wii and to meet Mario. Watching the patients swing around their new Wii remotes put a big smile on the face of everyone in the room.
Wii Fit is Coming to LA
Monday, Wii Fit shipped from Nintendo's warehouses and all Los Angeles area retail outlets should be fully stocked by Wednesday, May 21. But yesterday, they were sold exclusively at Nintendo World Store in New York City where Gothamist went to the official Wii Fit Launch party. Luckily, LAist had a chance to preview it at home. Here's what a little practicing yoga, hula hooping, and skiing look like below.
Super Smash Brothers Brawl Tournament This Saturday!
Just in time for the release one of the most anticipated titles for the Wii this year, the folks over at Nintendo are staging a regional tournament for fans of Super Smash Brothers Brawl, the game that just recently shattered Wii sales records in Japan. According to our sources, the first 256 people who show up at the Orpheum theater downtown will have a chance to fight to the finish in an attempt to claim the regional championship title. All regional winners will face off in a championship tournament in New York wherein the finalists will battle for a crystal-coated Wii and a home theater system from Best Buy. So if you've ever wanted to chance to see Pikachu kick the simultaneous asses of Mario and Luigi, head downtown this Saturday. Doors open at 3pm.
What's The Deal, Nintendo?
As you might have guessed, we're pretty big into gaming over at my house -- our console set-up includes the both generations of the Xbox, not one but TWO PS2's (one for the living room, one for the bedroom), a Dell XPS with a wide-screen monitor (for PC gaming), a Nintendo Gamecube, a Nintendo 64, an SNES, and a Gameboy -- oh, and possibly a Sony PSP floating around somewhere. Our 50" big-screen is optimized for the best gaming experience, with surround-sound Bose speakers and wireless networking.
Get Ready for Wii Fit in the New Year
Holidays have you indulging a little more than usual? Just in time for those New Year resolutions and post-holiday diets, the Wii Fit is expected to be released in North America in January. Released earlier this month in Japan, Wii Fit sold over a quarter million units in the first week. The game was designed for families to exercise with activities like stretching, yoga, step aerobics, push ups, jogging and much more. The additional system to the Wii console uses a pressure-sensitive platform called the Balance Board which players stand on, hop or press against. The platform can measure an individual's weight, body mass index and tracks the information to show your results over time. The Nintendo site states that activities focus more towards working out the "core," emphasizing slower, controlled motions.

Things (and People) I'm Thankful For
1. The Obvious- My parents and sister are the most important people in the world to me. They support me in every boneheaded endeavor I partake in, and believe me, there are tons. It's astonishing how many, actually. 2. My friends. Once again, totally obvious. Once again, they're totally awesome. Much love to Porter House, SLC, Shalhevet, AU, and everyone who fits into all, some, or none of those categories. World rockers, each and every...
Nintendo 101: A Crash Course in Wii
Ninitendo Wii demonstration units at the 2007 E for All Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center Nintendo extended an invitation for a female writer from LAist to meet Perrin Kaplan , VP of Marketing for Nintendo at the E for All Expo. I sent my R.S.V.P. and planned to check out the latest games and technology that Nintendo has to offer. Now I should tell you that I know next to nothing about...
Gone Halo-in'
If you happen to find yourself driving around at 11pm tonight, you'll likely see long lines of (mostly) men standing outside of Best Buys, EB Games and Gamestops all over greater Los Angeles. Do not be alarmed. It's just the hardcore gaming faithful lining up to claim their midnight copies of Halo 3, the biggest video game of the year. For the completely uninitiated, Halo is the sci-fi shooter franchise that is basically the...

The Reason to Get a Wii: Mario Strikers Charged
It seems like only yesterday when those few lucky thousand were unwrapping what would soon be the new standard in video games. All the excitement and glee surrounding the Nintendo Wii was phenomenal; wireless, infrared-sensored controls? Amazing! I know I had to show everyone who came over how much cooler it was to play tennis on a screen rather than in real life. However, a few weeks later, the thrill sort of died down,...

Leaner, Meaner E3 Almost Upon Us
Thousands of video game addicts, cosplayers and booth babe fans shed tears last year when the Entertainment Software Association announced that it would be scaling back the size and focus of future E3 Expos. The game industry and fan bacchanalia had previously attracted a record attendance of over 60,000 visitors and 400 companies in 2006. Instead of being held at LA's own Convention Center, the "more intimate" show will take place this year in...
SXSW Interactive Gets Really Interactive
Yesterday we showed you an interview from upstairs of the Austin Convention Center at SXSW where companies are answering questions about their Internet- and film-related products. Today, thanks to the Houston Chronicle, who took this footage above, we can show you a small glimpse of what's happening on the bottom floor of the Convention Center, in the video game area -- where things are getting mighty interactive. There you will see the new Nintendo...

If Santa stiffed you and didn't get that Nintendo Wii system you asked for, you still have another chance this year to buy one... and then break your television or yourself. Amazon.com will be taking orders for the ridiculously popular new video game system this morning some time between 7am and 11am, their website says. Amazon.com's Top 18 Best Selling Products of 2006
Maybe it wasn't cool in the South to go to the record store to get the new Dixie Chicks cd, but on the internet nobody can judge you. The Chicks were boycotted by Country radio and their fans said that they shouldn't have said what they said about President Bush, but when it came down to picking up their new cd, the people let their fingers do the buying. And if you ask us,...
Wii waited in line for a Wii!
After hearing that a big event celebrating the launch of the new Nintendo system, the Wii was taking place at Citywalk, we made a B-line for the Wii-line and got to sitting. The long night in line at one of our least favorite places in Los Angeles, Universal CityWalk, Wii finally have our console in hand and now Wii have yet another thing to eat up any free time Wii might come across. All our feelings on the situation could be summed up with this sign a couple of the revelers had posted on the window of the store
E3: A Recap
E3 has once again left the City of Angels, leaving in it's wake a trail of litter advertising the newest, hottest games, tons of Starbucks cups, the swag no one wanted, and booth babes sporting a bit more money in their wallets. Everyone that exhibited during the week of videogames is still probably recuperating, we can only imagine. Best thing overheard at E3 this year? "Man, this is where nerdy girls get laid."
The First Rule of Felt Club
Mom wants to be hip. She's tired of silk scarves from Nordstrom's and Liz Taylor handbags. What she wants this Mother's Day is a monster-appliqué purse and a set of robot-stencilled tea towels, all made by local hipster craftspeople. Who happen to be selling iridescent cupcakes in the parking lot of a comic book store. Ok, maybe not. But you might — and you can tell yourself you're shopping for mom.
Once more into the breach...
E3 has once again hit town, and you've probably been seeing banners, billboards, and strange signs announcing new and upcoming games and platforms. The coolest of them all has the strangest name, the Nintendo Wii. No, it's not French, but it really is stealing the show here. With the innovative new wand-like motion sensing controller, at least it promises to have kids (and we'll admit it, some adults) waving their hands around like a crazed orchestra conductor. So, America's obesity problem will only be from the shoulders down.
