LAist Film Calendar: Everything is Terrible! (Except Music Docs)

Don't let the name fool you - Everything is Terrible! is actually pretty terrific. The monstrous crew (no, really, they're furry monsters) scavenges VHS bargain bins all across America, gathering infomercials, televangelists, creepy kids' videos, rapping PSA's, and God knows what else, distilling them into mind-blowing mash-ups of irony, nostalgia and genuine admiration. This weekend, they emerge from their internet cave to wreak magick (with a k for kick-ass!) upon the Cinefamily for the first-ever Everything is Festival! For a taste of what to expect, check out our Canadian compatriots at Torontoist. The 2 Day 2 Everything 2 Terrible 2 LA premiere showcase extravaganza includes a dance party, BBQ, frightening furry rituals and contributions from Rob Schrab (The Sarah Silverman Program), Dan Harmon (Community), Rob Huebel & Paul Scheer (Human Giant) and Zack Carlson (The Alamo Drafthouse), climaxing in a user-generated Found Footage Battle Royale. more ›

Got Art & 'Net Skills? Work for Nine Inch Nails!

A job listing popped on Craigslist yesterday that might be music to the right web and graphics dork's ears. It seems Nine Inch Nails is on the prowl for "an internet-savvy web and graphics assistant who will work with an art director on a wide variety of tasks relating to web development, graphic design, video editing/production, and online marketing." more ›

NIN's Latest, Ghosts I-IV is Available Now for $0-$300

Trent Reznor is a free man. In the year since he officially released his last album -- Year Zero -- under contract to Interscope Records, Reznor, 42, developed an Alternate Reality Game built around Year Zero and released a Year Zero remix CD which included a data disc with raw WAV files meant to encourage mass manipulation. He also produced and performed on Saul Williams' excellent free-or-$5 downloadable. more ›

Extra Extra: First You Gotta Do the Truffle Shuffle

Extra Extra: First You Gotta Do the Truffle Shuffle

The country's safest city (some years, anyway), is getting less and less so: a shooting this morning at a Simi Valley tire store left two dead and two injured. Police have ruled out robbery and suspect a personal motive in the attack. There are a few updates on the potential water cutbacks -- although Los Angeles is okay for now (thanks to the Owens Valley), the time may come when water rationing will be... more ›

Trent Reznor Says Goodbye to Record Labels, Record Labels Say Terance Trent Who?

Following in the footsteps of Matthew Good and Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor announced today that he has come to the end of the downward spiral. He has fulfilled his contractual agreements with Interscope and will see if he can avoid the middleman and allow his audience to deal with him in a more intimate arrangement, he said on nin.com.

Hello everyone. I've waited a LONG time to be able to make the following announcement: as of right now Nine Inch Nails is a totally free agent, free of any recording contract with any label. I have been under recording contracts for 18 years and have watched the business radically mutate from one thing to something inherently very different and it gives me great pleasure to be able to finally have a direct relationship with the audience as I see fit and appropriate. more ›

Coachella 2005: Day Two

Coachella 2005: Day Two

So how would you end a weekend in which you have the number one movie in the country? Well, if you're Mos Def, you cold rock a party like it was Krush Groove. The Mighty Mos Def and Talib Kweli closed the main stage (to a much smaller crowd than Nine Inch Nails which, we think, had to do with Goldenvoice not naming Mos and Talib in the adverts or the program) with an energetic set spanning their combined efforts as Black Star and their more recognizable solo faire. Common, who loves to show up at LA hip hop shows and do his guest spots, showed in the desert as well. more ›
