Kurt Sutter's "Sons of Anarchy" begins its season finale wind-down tonight and it's a lot different than last year's finale: whether that's good or bad, you make the call. Hopefully #SOA will get the recognition it deserves in '12. --- More news & The TV Junkie Must-Watch Plan.
TV Junkie: 'Sons of Anarchy' Finale Begins Tonight; Nick Kroll Show Is Tonight
TV Junkie: Interview with Katie Aselton from 'The League'
We've never tried to hide the fact that we're tremendous fans of FX's "The League" (Thursdays @ 10:30pm), the series about a group of former college buddies/misfits who run an extremely competitive, no holds barred fantasy football league. For those who haven't watched the show, the fantasy football stuff is the MacGuffin, simply an environment for some hilarious characters powered by inspired improvisational performances from a cast that includes: Paul Scheer, Mark Duplass, Jon Lajoie, Stephen Rannazzisi, Nick Kroll, and Katie Aselton.
TV Junkie: Interview with the creators of FX's 'The League'
We were happy to jump into a conference call with the producers and creators of FX's "The League", Jackie Marcus Schaffer and Jeff Schaffer last week. This is a great show with great writing and fantastic partially improv-ed performances from the cast which includes the incredible Jon Lajoie whom we had the chance to interview while walking around Hollywood and Vine last year as well as just before one of his live performances in Boston (see the video embeds at the end of the post).
Midnight Movie: The Ed Hardy Boyz Are On The Case
Bobby Bottleservice (Nick Kroll) and Peter Papparazzo (Jon Daly) are The Ed Hardy Boyz. Today's case: The Case of When That Hot Filipina Girl Lost Her Tramp Stamp At Mini-Golf. The episode features cameos from Fred Durst, Pauly Shore, and Hardy-designer Christian Audigier.
Show Review: What's Up, Tiger Lily?
Monday nights have long been mentioned on LAist as, surprisingly, a great night for comedy. There’s Harold Night at UCB, the Armando Show at iO West, and plenty of other random shows around town to assuage your already work-weary brain. But there’s one show, in the heart of Los Angeles, that doesn’t really fit the Monday bill. It’s as established as the improv shows mentioned above, and has bigger names attached to it than any random show you’re likely to find. And yet, it still flies under the radar. Or, rather, it’s tucked away, both figuratively and inside the Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill at the Gower Gulch on Sunset / Gower. Hell, even the stage is tucked not-so-neatly into a corner, right by the entrance. But you’re not coming for the ambiance or even the food; you’re coming for the world class stand up. This is Tiger Lily.
FYF Fest - LA State Historic Park - 9/5/09 - Part 1
At the end of Fucked Up’s powerful, frenetic set, frontman Pink Eyes looks out at the crowd and says something along the lines of “You can say we played the Hipster Woodstock. You can say we play punk rock. One thing I know, my hips are in a state of shock.” It’s actually a fitting summary of last Saturday’s FYF festival - whose crowd is a healthy cross-section of young hipsters, and aging punk rockers with bad hips. I’m not entirely sure of the significance, but there seems to be a poetic irony in the proliferation of teenagers in Black Flag T-shirts and forty-somethings in Vivian Girls T-shirts.
